Veteran Larry Morgan looking to set fire to BIR in his FireAde Chevrolet

BRAINERD, MN- Veteran Larry Morgan will attempt to win his third national event of the season Sunday at the Larry Morgan - Brainerd, Saturday34th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway. Despite qualifying action being limited to three sessions by rain, Morgan successfully qualified his Gray Motorsports-powered FireAde Chevrolet Camaro in the No. 11 position of a very quick Pro Stock field.

“We have the technology, the desire, and the sponsor support to win every race we enter,” Morgan said. “This one is no exception. We’re here to win and I believe if we’d had that fourth shot in qualifying, we would have made a big move up and been at the top of the (time) sheet.

“As it is you can practically throw a blanket over the top 12 cars anyways. This class has gotten so good. It seems we say that every year, but you look at the times from this race and you’re just shaking your head. The good thing is when the cars are this close, it usually comes down to the drivers, and I like our chances there.”

Morgan’s first test will come against No. 6 qualifier Vincent Nobile, who ran a best of 6.620 at 208.10 mph. Nobile is known for his starting-line prowess, but Morgan has been super sharp himself, especially in winning national events in Charlotte and Denver.

“It all kind of goes together,” Morgan said. “When you have good horsepower, like we have from Gray Motorsports, then tuning the car is so much easier. When you can tune the car to its ability, then your confidence goes way up and you tend to drive better. Everything’s been working for us this year.

“Plus, we have Ron Thames and FireAde behind us, and that support has made everything possible. If you haven’t looked at FireAde, look them up on the Web. That’s one product that should be in every household and business in the country.”

Morgan currently ranks sixth in the world and could clinch his spot in the six-race Countdown to the Championship as soon as this weekend. He could also move up a position to fifth with a big race day.

“With this race and just one more to go before the playoffs, you do start thinking about it,” Morgan said. “I’m more excited to gain some race day momentum than I am worried about what position we are when it starts. We’ve seen year after year that your performance in the payoffs is what matters. Teams have won it all after starting the playoffs in 10th place. We’re excited to be a part of it.”
