Toyota NHRA Las Vegas Preview

WORSHAM LOOKS TO MAKE IT TWO IN A ROW IN VEGAS – After winning the Toyota Nationals last Fall, Del Worsham will be looking to make it two in a row in Las Vegas this weekend. The Fall victory has helped buoy the team to three finals appearances in the last six races. On the strength of two finals and one semi-final this season, Worsham will bring the Funny Car point lead to Las Vegas. Worsham is the only driver in history to win both a Funny Car and Top Fuel event at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

CHARLOTTE WIN, CONSISTENCY PUSH BROWN INTO TOP FUEL POINT LEAD – After a victory at Charlotte last race, Antron Brown enters this weekend’s Las Vegas race on top of the Top Fuel point standings. Brown is the only driver in the series to advance to the semi-finals or beyond in each of the first four races this season with one victory, one final (Pomona) and two semi-final showings.

Antron Brown: “There’s no hiding that we’ve been struggling a little bit early in the season. We haven’t always been as fast we would like, but we’re working hard and going one race at a time. It’s nice to have the point lead, but it doesn’t count out until we reach Pomona at the end of the season.”

BROWN ONE WIN AWAY FROM MILESTONE – After winning the Charlotte Four-Wides, Antron Brown has moved to within one victory of tying the legendary Don “The Snake” Prudhomme for 10th all-time in NHRA Mello Yello Series career victories at 49. Brown has now won at least one race in every season since moving up to Top Fuel in 2008.

CAMRYS SCORE BIG IN LAS VEGAS – Camry Funny Cars have scored big in Las Vegas in recent years, winning three of the last four events at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Last year, the Kalitta Motorsports duo of Alexis DeJoria (spring) and Del Worsham (fall) captured the two Funny Car races, while Cruz Pedregon was victorious at the spring race in 2013. Pedregon also won the 2008 fall race in his Camry on the way to the Funny Car World Championship.

TOYOTA VEGAS WINNERS – Overall, five current Toyota drivers have won in Las Vegas. Antron Brown won in Top Fuel in 2011 and 2013; Del Worsham won in Top Fuel in 2011 along with his Funny Car win last fall; Cruz Pedregon has three Funny Car wins (2013, 2008, 2006); Tony Pedregon has Funny Car wins in 2003 (2) and 2006; and Alexis DeJoria won the spring Funny Car race in 2013.
