Toyota NHRA Las Vegas Preview
BROWN MOVES CLOSER TO 2nd TF TITLE – Antron Brown will take a 132-point lead into this weekend’s Toyota
Nationals in his drive to earn a second Top Fuel world championship. In the four Countdown to the Championship races to date, Brown has registered three wins and a won-loss record of 14-1. He could clinch the title this weekend by gaining 18 points on second-place Tony Schumacher. For the season, Brown leads the series in wins with a career-best seven – the fifth time in the last seven years that he’s won six or more races. He’s the only Top Fuel driver in the series to achieve that feat more than once during that time span.
WORSHAM TAKES FUNNY CAR CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD TO VEGAS – Fresh off his third victory in four Countdown races, Del Worsham will take a 38-point championship lead into the Toyota Nationals with just two races remaining. Worsham has won at Charlotte, St. Louis and Dallas on his way to compiling a 12-1 record during the Countdown. He is pursuing his first Funny Car championship after winning the 2011 Top Fuel title. He is on pace to become just the third driver in NHRA history to win a championship in both Top Fuel and Funny Car, joining Kenny Bernstein and Gary Scelzi.
CRAMPTON LOOKS TO REPEAT – Less than two years ago Richie Crampton was a crew member on his Morgan Lucas Racing team, now he’ll return to The Strip looking to sweep the year’s two Las Vegas events. Overall, he’s won five races this season, surpassed only by Antron Brown, and currently sits third in the point race. Crampton has an impressive seven wins in his first 46 races.
DEJORIA, TOYOTA COMBINE TO OFFER FREE MAMMOGRAMS – Funny Car winner Alexis DeJoria will work with the Nevada Health Centers (NVHC) to offer any female ticketholder over the age of 40 a free mammogram while attending this weekend’s Toyota Nationals, regardless of health insurance status. Although health insurance is not required, those who are insured should bring their insurance information to the race. Toyota and Patron are the presenting sponsors of the program.
