Toyota NHRA Denver Preview

BROWN’S AMAZING RUN – No driver in major American motorsports has enjoyed more success over the past five Toyota Logoand a half years than Toyota Top Fuel driver Antron Brown. Not only has he won two NHRA world championships, but after winning the most recent event at Chicago, he has won 32 races dating back to 2011 – more than the next two highest Top Fuel drivers combined total of 29. During that time, Brown has won six or more races in a season four times.

BROWN, KALITTA SET TO CONTINUE TOP FUEL BATTLE IN DENVER – Toyota Top Fuel drivers Antron Brown and Doug Kalitta continue to battle for the series point lead with Brown taking over the top spot after his win in Chicago. He currently holds a two-point lead over Kalitta heading to Denver. The two have run one-two in the points in some fashion since Atlanta seven races ago. The duo is currently tied for the series lead in wins with three apiece. Coincidentally, Brown and Kalitta also are tied for fourth in the NHRA in all-time Top Fuel wins at 41.

TODD ON DOORSTEP OF FIRST ’16 WIN – After two consecutive runner-up finishes among three for the season in his SealMaster Toyota dragster, it’s appears to be only a matter of time before J.R. Todd captures that elusive first win of the 2016 season. This weekend he’ll be heading to the site of two of his eight Top Fuel victories in the Bandimere Speedway. Todd won in 2014 for his first victory for Kalitta Motorsports, as well as earning his first-ever Top Fuel win at the track in 2006. He arrives in Denver seventh in the points, just 21 behind Shawn Langdon for sixth.

TOYOTA DRIVERS IN DENVER – Five current Toyota drivers have previously won at Bandimere Speedway. Antron Brown and J.R. Todd have each scored two Top Fuel victories at the track with Todd’s victory the most recent in 2014. In addition, Cruz Pedregon has notched a pair of wins in Funny Car, most recently having driven his Camry to Winner’s Circle in 2013. Doug Kalitta (Top Fuel) and Del Worsham (Funny Car) each have triumphed once at the Mile High Nationals.

NHRA ON FOX NETWORK – This weekend’s race at Bandimere Speedway will be the first Mello Yello Drag Racing Series event to be shown live on the FOX broadcast network. To date, each of this season’s races have been shown on the Fox Sports 1 cable network.
