TONY PEDREGON ENCOURAGED AFTER POMONA DNQ

Pomona, CA – Tony Pedregon, pilot of the American Racing Funny Car and two-time NHRA Nitro Funny Car World Champion Tony Pedregon - Pomona - Courtesy of Roger Richards, Comp Plusvisited Auto Club Raceway for the Circle K NHRA Winternationals, the 1st race on the 24-race NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series.

The team’s first pass on Friday produced a good base line run that placed Pedregon 6th in the qualifying order. In the second session, Tony experienced a small fire which the crew repaired late into the night. Saturday’s first run produced a three-quarter track pass that left the team in a good position going into the final qualifier. After addressing a fuel system issue, the car over powered the race track resulting in a loss of traction placing Pedregon outside the field.

“A DNQ is disappointing but the flip side is that I am very confident going into the next event. We weren’t in a position to go test like many of the other teams. Based on our last 2 runs on Saturday, we have a good foundation to build on and a good showing in Phoenix will make up for the past weekend.”

Tony will be looking to improve his team’s performance as the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series heads to Phoenix, Arizona for the CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals at the newly resurfaced and upgraded Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park February 21-23.

Pedregon, who won the NHRA World Championship in 2003 and 2007, is in his 20th year of his pro career.  Tony Pedregon is 3rd on the list of all-time Funny Car wins with 43.
