Todd, DeJoria, Brown Advance to Final Quad At Charlotte Four-Wides

CONCORD, NC – J.R. Todd was the runner-up in Funny Car, with Alexis DeJoria placing fourth in the class, while Antron Brown finished third in Top Fuel as the top finishing Toyotas at the NGK NTK NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway, Sunday.

The three drivers combined to five of their six opening two quads outright heading into the finals.

Todd opened his day in the DHL Camry by defeating Tim Wilkerson, Terry Haddock and Jim Campbell to advance to round two. In advancing to the second round, he placed second, defeating fellow Camry driver Mike McIntire and Terry Haddock.  In the finals, Todd had a slight advantage on the tree and led the through the first 60 feet, but John Force was able to run him down by the 330’ mark and held Todd off to win by 13 feet.

DeJoria opened her day by registering the quickest pass of the opening round with a blistering 3.903 as she defeated point leader Bob Tasca, Robert Hight and Blake Alexander. In round two, the ROKiT Toyota picked up right where it left off, winning outright with a 3.929 over Cruz Pedregon, Matt Hagan and Tasca.  In the finals, she would leave just .001 second behind Todd, but dropped a cylinder on the step taking her out of contention. She stayed in and turned in a respectable 4.057 in finishing fourth.

In Top Fuel, Brown continued his strong start to the season. Fresh off a victory at Atlanta, the Matco Tools Toyota driver outran Krista Baldwin, Shawn Langdon in the DHL Toyota and Leah Pruett. It was more of the same in round two as Brown put down a 3.743-second pass at 327.11 mph as he defeated Steve Torrence, Doug Foley and Baldwin.  In the finals, he would register his quickest pass of the day with a 3.738, but this time Torrence would come out on top with Force edging Brown for second.

Rounding out the Toyota contingent was Doug Kalitta, who won his opening quad over Josh Hart, Billy Torrence and Kyle Wurzel before being eliminated in round two when he appeared to overpower the track, giving the win to Hart, with Force placing second.

The Camping World Drag Racing Series is back in action next weekend for the NHRA SpringNationals at Houston Raceway Park, May 21-23.
