Adel, GA – With the summer heat in Florida drawing to a close and fall in the air, race season is beginning to get into gear and it was
time to dust off our race cars and hit the pavement running. We loaded up the rig and headed to Georgia a day early to get some testing completed in our newly configured IRS Supra and the 10.5 Outlaw Scion TC.
This spring we completely revamped our world famous Supra using a configuration more similar to our Outlaw cars, but still maintaing the gasoline fuel system and factory Toyota independent rear suspension. A newly prototyped part failed on our 3rd attempt resulting in our test being cut short. With the Supra out of commission we began testing the Scion, resulting in a 4.25 pass at a weight much heavier than we typically run in compliance with this particular races guidelines.
With solid test data from the day prior we began qualifying the car, eventually running a 4.319 @ 172.81 and qualifying 8th out of a full 32 car field. We were the only import running this event and had tough competition including Tim Lynch the eventual race winner and #1 qualifier with a 4.229@186, in his 670+ Cubic Inch twin turbo Corvette.
In the first round Gary faced off with Chris LeVangie and bested him with a 4.275 at 175.5mph to LeVangies 5.018 @ 140. In the second round we faced off against Jimmy Marino who cut a great light and got a jump on Gary in the right lane which after some tire spin in the Scion proved to be too much. With a 2nd round loss our weekend was over and it was back to Orlando to prepare both cars for upcoming events in Orlando and Maryland in the next 30 days.
These events mark the return of our Scion to 1/4 mile competition, as well as our quest for the IRS and Supra records in the newly configured Supra. Our crew will also be returning to Bahrain to help field the Titan Motorsports supported efforts of E Kanoo Racing in their IRS and Outlaw Import Supras in hopes of repeating at BDRC Champions.
