Gary Don Free and his Team DragChamp dragster return to racing with Brodix partnership

KATY, TX – Gary Don Free, owner and founder of DragChamp.com, returns to active competition with Brodix Cylinder Heads partnership.  After a 10-month hiatus from competition, Gary Don hit the track recently with newfound horsepower from his Sherman Racing Engines prepared big block Chevy.

After struggling with cylinder head issues for the better part of 2020, Free partnered with Brodix Cylinder Heads for the 2021 season.  The move was made in order to produce more power and provide the consistency needed to compete in the ultra-competitive world of bracket racing.

“After a tough 2020 season where our brand X heads failed us consistently,” Free explained. “We couldn’t be more excited to have Brodix Cylinder Heads on our race car this season.  In our first outing there was a noticeable difference in power and consistency.  After sitting on the sidelines for 10 months, our dragster laid down six-straight 4.77 laps at Houston Raceway,” Free continued.

In his 35-year racing career, Free has been a track champion, Louisiana State Champion, NHRA National event winner, and Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series finalist.  Having grown up around racing his entire life, Gary Don worked in his family’s automotive machine shop where he machined cylinder heads while attending college in the early 90’s.  After moving into the corporate business world after graduation, Free didn’t forget his days in the machine shop.  “I remember machining Brodix heads years ago and one thing remains the same then and now, the quality of their product is outstanding.”

When the opportunity arose late last season to upgrade his engine, Free and current engine builder Allen Sherman of Sherman Racing Engines quickly agreed that Brodix was the best choice.  This decision is proving fruitful as the DragChamp dragster is performing flawlessly.  Not only did the new heads provide the consistency and reliability they were looking for, but the car is also over a tenth quicker now!
