SUPPORT FOR RESTORING EUROPE’S FIRST DRAGSTER FROM LAS AEROSPACE

The Allard Chrysler Action Group (ACAG) is pleased to announce support for restoring Europe’s first dragster – LAS logo 2Sydney Allard’s 1961 Allard Chrysler – from LAS Aerospace. The group was looking for a timing buzz box for the 354 Chrysler Hemi engine. Chris Eames identified a unit offered by LAS Aerospace Limited in Okehampton with a part number LED51. After we checked with Ray Howe at LAS that it was suitable, Managing Director Scott Powell agreed to donate the unit to the project.

LAS Aerospace was originally founded by owner Stephen Saywell in 1982 and has been at the forefront of supporting the Sport and General Aviation market since then. Day to day running of the company is overseen by MD Scott Powell

They have one of the largest stocks of British and American specification hardware in Europe – in total over 100,000 parts – all available for next day delivery. They have shipments leaving the USA daily, meaning most products are delivered in under a week. Full details can be found on their website www.lasaero.com. Tel 01837 658081

The LED 51 unit being used by the Allard Chrysler Action Group is really designed specifically for aircraft magneto synchronization and engine timing; but it is ideal for timing a Chrysler Hemi with a single magneto (they have another unit for twin mag application). It eliminates all guesswork and provides a greater safety factor by creating perfect timing quickly and reliably. You simply attach three clips to the magneto and adjust until the illuminated LED turns off (extinguishes) and the tone sounds.

MD Scott Powell says, “This application is quite different to our normal requests but we are pleased to support such a unique project. Heritage is important to protect and being an American engine it is very much in line with our normal generic aviation products sourced in the USA. We were very pleased to be able to help”.

ACAG Chairman Brian Taylor says, “Support for this restoration project has come from many different companies and private individuals – some based in the UK and others in the USA. It is very rewarding that so many see the value in what is being achieved”.
