Strong Showing for Garret Race Cars in St. Louis

Written by Ian Tocher

MARBLE HILL, MO — Garret Race Cars enjoyed another solid weekend June 1-2, during the American Drag Racing League (ADRL) Gateway Drags IV at the recently reopened Gateway Motorsports Park, near St. Louis.

The Garret-built entries of former back-to-back ADRL world champion Jason Scruggs (2007-08) and 2006 champ Bubba Stanton qualified second and third in the ADRL’s premier Pro Extreme class, following only Scruggs’ teammate Mick Snyder, who also won the event.

“I want to congratulate our good friend and teammate Mick Snyder,” said Garret Livingston, founder and president of Garret Race Cars in Marble Hill, Missouri. “We didn’t build Mick’s car, but we did make some chassis repairs after he had an incident with it a couple of years ago.”

Scruggs qualified at 3.617 seconds and 207.91 mph in his Garret Race Cars ’63 Corvette, with Stanton’s ‘69 Camaro placing third at 3.633 and 208.97 mph, the second-highest speed in the class all weekend. Scruggs went on to reach his second final round of the year after only four races, but Stanton ran into trouble early and bowed out in round one.

Also qualifying in the top half of the Pro Extreme field in another Garret car was Brandon Pesz, who started seventh after making a near-career-best 3.671-seconds pass at 206.54 mph in his ’58 Corvette, while his teammate, Todd Martin, after going 3.774 at 197.57, missed getting his Garret-built ’68 Mustang into the second-quickest field in ADRL history by just one-thousandth of a second.

Additionally, ADRL Top Sportsman championship contenders Glenn Butcher and Aaron Glaser, who won in April at Bristol, Tennessee, each qualified their Garret Race Cars-built ’68 Camaros in the top half of the field at Gateway, with Glaser making it to the quarter finals.

“I’m very proud of all of our customers,” Livingston said. “I feel like they represented themselves really well and I’m looking forward to seeing them all back in action in a couple of weeks.”

The 2012 ADRL tour resumes June 22-23, with the U.S. Drags V at Virginia Motorsports Park, near Richmond, Virginia.
