Southeast Division Top Dragster Champion, Spradlin, eager to begin 1st National Championship quest at Zmax

Ranburne, AL – Casey Spradlin, the 2012 and 2014 NHRA Southeast Division Top Dragster champion, like all other NOPI WC Spradlin MotorsportsTop Dragster/Top Sportsman racers is excited to be able to strive for an NHRA national championship! “Once NHRA made the announcement that we would have a national championship starting this season, it excited everyone in our classes and we are seeing a bump in participation as well, NHRA gave us a shot in the arm and we are very appreciative of that,” Spradlin says. Spradlin is the driver of the Southeastern Hose backed Top Dragster and Top Sportsman entries.
Spradlin has already kicked off his division title defense in the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional events that have taken place in Orlando and Gainesville, Florida in February and March with the teams supercharged 200+ MPH dragster. “We have been to three Lucas Oil divisionals so far, but haven’t performed well at any of them. At the first we qualified #2 with a 212 MPH blast that blew a crack in the head, sending us home early. Thanks to Scott Duggins at P.A.R. Racing Engines we were able to make it back to the second LODRS event just a week later but didn’t make it out of first round, losing a close one at the stripe after some tire shake. At the last event the car slowed again in the second round. So our season has started off on the wrong foot. We have made the necessary repairs and are ready to turn things around at Zmax.”

The Spradlin Motorsports team also participates in the Top Sportsman class with a beautiful supercharged 200+ MPH ’37 Chevy Coupe. This entry has also presented many challenges this season for the team. “We had a new engine built during the short off season and we just didn’t get things together in time to make it out at the first few races of the season,” Spradlin reflects.

Spradlin Motorsports is very excited to announce new marketing partners that helped with the completion of the engine for the Coupe. Steve Schmidt Racing Engines assembled the short block with a Lunati crankshaft and JE pistons. “We are very blessed to have added great new partners for the 2015 season, they are great companies that make great parts and we hope to represent them well.” In order to make it to the 3rd LODRS event the team literally worked all night getting the engine ready the night before the event. Their efforts didn’t pan out as some valve train issues plagued the engine’s debut resulting in a second round loss. After some more work before and during the Gator Nationals the same issue reared its head again sending them back home to put in additional work before the NMCA event at Atlanta Dragway April 10th-12th.

Including the aforementioned new supporters, Spradlin Motorsports also welcomes Lucas Oil as well as Hoosier tires provided by Jody’s Trackside Tire Service and Renegade Race Fuels provided by G.A.S. Racing Inc. “Again we are very humbled that our success on and off the track is being recognized and that our new supporters are finding value in our marketing efforts,” says Spradlin. “Lucas Oil does so much for our sport and I am glad to be associated with them and their fine products and you won’t find better quality fuels than Renegade at great prices as well! We need not forget R.J.S./S.T.T. Safety for keeping me safe too.”

Although it is a few races into the season for Spradlin Motorsports, there are still plenty of races left to gain ground in the division point’s battle. The next event for the team is the NHRA 4 Wide Nationals at Zmax Dragway in Top Dragster starting March 27th. This will be the first Top Dragster national event this season and Spradlin is eager to begin his national championship quest after compiling 3 division championships in both NHRA and IHRA competition in the last 5 years. After that the team has a full slate of NHRA national and divisional events scheduled for the rest of the year. Their full schedule is available on their website www.spradlinmotorsports.com.
