SATURDAY RESULTS FROM THE SUPER CHEVY KICK-OFF AT PALM BEACH INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY

PALM BEACH, FL – It was a hot one today in Palm Beach with temperatures reaching 91 degrees. Chevrolet 
enthusiasts from all parts of the country joined locals in kicking-off the Super Chevy Show Series presented by GM Performance Division. Activities began at 8:00a.m. this morning and ranged from drag racing time trials and autocross, to a classic Chevrolet car show and a swap meet.
On Saturday of each SCS event, Super Chevy magazine will choose their top ten picks. These ten car owners will win an Editor’s Top Ten Award. Today, the following competitors left with smiles on their faces.
1. Rudy Wichmann from Lake Worth, Fla. (’70 SS454 El Camino)
2. Don Weir from Okechobee, Fla. (’69 Z/28)
3. David Poxio from Coconut Creek, Fla. (’68 SS396 Chevelle)
4. Ronnie Caldwell from Naples, Fla. (2010 Camaro)
5. Linda Keel from Spotsylvania, Va. (’55 Chevy)
6. Richard Schulz from Stuart, Fla. (’57 Chevy)
7. Allen McEntire from Sebring, Fla. (’56 Chevy)
8. Kurt Sebben from Edgewater, Fla. (’71 Nova)
9. Sebastian Barroso from Weston, Fla. (’67 Camaro)
10. Michael Mellone from Westin, Fla. (’71 Monte Carlo)
In Autocross, driver Andrew Braswell won first place “expert” category in a 2003 Corvette with a time of 48.00 (seconds). Glen Vitale came in second with a time of 48.90 (seconds), winning him the Spectre Performance Novice category award. Glen was racing a 2011 Camaro.
In this event’s True Street class, Mark Dixon (Stuart, Fla., ’82 Camaro) took the win today with a 9.519 ET (elapsed time) at a top speed of 145.30 miles per hour. Derek Putnam of Gainesville Fla., came in second with an ET of 10.370 at 128.20 miles per hour.
The 5th Generation Camaro class winner today was Stephen Vigon (Miami, Fla., 2010 Camaro SS) with an ET of 11.917 at 118.59 miles per hour. Second place went to Kelly Fromm (St. Augustine, Fla., 2010 Camaro) with an ET of 15.119 at 104.35 miles per hour.
Bracket 1 rounded out today as winner Steve Dweck (Hollywood, Fla., ’97 Horton) took the win after being number one qualifier. In the final round, Dweck ran a 7.538 ET at 160.48 miles per hour to runner-up Claude DeBonis’s (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., ’08 Worthy) 7.274 at 173.72 miles per hour.
Bracket 2 ended in Manny Sousa (Bradenton, Fla., ’66 Chevy Nova) fouling out by two-hundredths of a second, giving the win to A.J. Issman (Deerfield Beach, Fla., ’73 Nova) who went a 10.891 ET at 102.01 miles per hour.
The Q-16 Dragster class was also won by Steve Dweck (Hollywood, Fla., ’97 Horton) who ran a 7.401 ET at 176.60 miles per hour. Dweck defeated Mike Lago (Lantana, Fla., ’97 Mullis). Lago ran a close 7.204 ET at 187.83 miles per hour.
In the Q-16 Door Car class, Joe Puleo (Royal Palm Beach, Fla., ’81 Corvette) won in an upset, as he qualified 12th out of 16 cars. Puleo ran a 5.715 ET at 120.63 miles per hour, defeating number 9 qualifier, Johnny O’Casquilla (Lake Worth, Fla., ’88 Camaro), who ran a 5.461 ET at 125.40 miles per hour.
