Rocky Di Lecce poised to take PMRA Pro Modified title this weekend at Grand Bend
CAYUGA, ON – The Pro Modified will compete in its seventh of eight races this weekend during the Teamsters Canada Local 879
“Thunder by the Beach” weekend at the Grand Bend Motorplex.
And with five wins so far this season, Rocky Di Lecce pretty well has a lock on of winning his first PMRA championship with a large lead in points going into this final points race for 2013.
The driver of the 1968 Chevy Camaro Pro Modified from Mississauga, Ontario leads the points chase with 1612 markers, followed by PMRA veteran Jack Grainy of Bason, New York, in the Grainy Brothers entry with 1400 points.
Third is former PMRA three-time champion Bruce Boland of Stoney Creek, Ontario who has 1375 points, while Derek Hawker of Corbyville, Ontario is next with 1333 points and PMRA rookie Paolo Giust of Osgoode, Ontario is fifth with 981 points in his 1963 Corvette.
Rounding out the top ten are Jeff Roth of Kitchener, Ontario, Sam Andreacchi of Toronto, Ontario, Jason Kalso of Clarkston, Michigan, Rob Atchison of London, Ontario, and Jay Santos of Halton Hills, Ontario.
Qualifying for this race gets underway Friday, August 30 at 7:15 pm, with the rest of the qualifiers on Saturday, August 31 at 4 and 7 pm. Eliminations are scheduled to begin Sunday, September 1 at 11:15 am.
The PMRA will conclude its ninth season of racing at the inaugural International Pro Mod Challenge September 20-21 at Maryland Int’l Raceway, Mechanicsville, Maryland in a special Pro Modified Racing Association (PMRA) vs. Northeast Outlaw Pro Mod Association (NOPMA) race. This event will be a non-points race.
The Teamsters Canada Local 879 “Thunder by the Beach” weekend will also feature a Top Fuel Dragster Nitro Nostalgia Funny Cars, the return of the popular Jet Trains and the Grand Bend Motorsport Thunder Series, Extreme 32 Series and Junior Series, plus Fireworks.
