EDMONTON, AL – Persistent rains and rapidly cooling temperatures have forced the cancellation of Friday’s Nitro Jam action at Castrol Raceway just moments before the beginning of the pro show Friday at the Mopar Rocky Mountain Nitro Jam Nationals in Edmonton.

All sportsman qualifying rounds were wrapped up before the rains arrived, but the entire professional show was cancelled due to the wet weather. Despite the rains, thousands of fans braved the weather in hopes of seeing the thrill of nitro racing at Edmonton’s Castrol Raceway before the rain called Friday’s action.

Fans who bought Friday tickets can redeem those tickets either Saturday or Sunday at Canada’s largest drag race.

In sportsman action Dan Lachelt of Kelowna, British Columbia topped Top Dragster with a very quick 6.525, 213.73 and Scott Blake of Red Deer, Alberta headed Top Sportsman with a 6.600, 210.11. In the Stock classes Byron Setters of Red Deer topped Super Stock and Paul Plummer of Couer D’Alene, Idaho headed Stock.

Saturday’s action at the Mopar Rocky Mountain Nitro Jam Nationals will get underway at 11 a.m. with more sportsman qualifying, followed by two rounds of Nitro Jam beginning at 6 p.m. capped off by the SMS “Night of Fire” Saturday evening.
