Pompadours, Poodle Skirts ad Plenty of Hot Rods at Blue Suede Cruise
While music of the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s plays in the background, drivers will put a shine on their 1972 and earlier
street rods before pointing them down track as part of the 15th Annual Wanda AkzoNobel Blue Suede Cruise, Friday through Sunday, July 15-17, 2016 at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio.
The event heavy on old school cool also will feature a manufacturers’ midway showcasing products from Trick Flow Specialties, Don Tester Ford, Wanda AkzoNobel and other companies, as well as seminars, a vintage fashion show and Women’s World shopping.
An incredible list of door prizes includes a 1926-1927 Street Rod body by ScottRods Custom HotRods and Fiberglass. It’s wearing a custom blue flake paint job and radiator surround, and will receive a floor and windshield after the new owner takes delivery of it.
Additional door prizes boast products and offers from Summit Racing Equipment, Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels, Trick Flow Specialties, the Diamond Collection, Kelleys Island Venture Resort and many others.
Cars taking part in the Gasser Appreciation Race and Nostalgia Drag Racing League’s Pro 7.0, Pro 7.50, Pro Comp and Pro Gas categories will pound pavement during the event sponsored by Cruisin’ Times Magazine and Kelleys Island Venture Resort, and an always-popular Smoky Burnout Contest will rev up at 7:20 Saturday.
A “Surf’s Up Tribute to the Beach Boys” concert will be performed by Phil Dirt and the Dozers at 8 p.m. Saturday before things heat up even further with a flame-throwing contest featuring judging for Injection and Non-Injection categories. $250 awaits the winner in each of those two categories. A colorful display of fireworks over the track will put the exclamation mark on all of the action on Saturday.
Adult spectator admission costs $15 Friday or Sunday; $20 Saturday, $40 for the weekend, free for children 15 and younger.
