PMRA’s Bruce Boland looking to get back to winning ways at upcoming South Coast Community weekend

HAMILTON, ON – Some teething problems with a new car kept Bruce Boland out of contention for the last Pro Modified Racing Association race, but the car and team will be ready for the next round of PMRA action during the South Coast Community Weekend June 21-23 at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park.

We were a little too aggressive, Boland said during the previous meet’s test and tune session last month. We were not sure what the new car is capable of.

The new car is a 1963 Corvette-bodied Pro Modified with a supercharged engine courtesy of Engine Research & Development. After competing with the former 1941 Willys for two seasons, the B&B Racing Team believes it has the proper combination in the new Corvette for the next race.

Boland, a three-time PMRA champion and a competitor in the popular drag race series since its inception in 2004, also leads the series with 10 event victories, and would like to add to that total in 2013. He presently sits fourth in series points for this season.

The ERD engine in the Corvette is brand new, he said, and it makes lots of power. When we get it all sorted out, we plan to get back into the hunt.

Team members include Dennis Veillette, Brad Short, Ron Pierce and Roger Jongerden, and sponsorship is provided by Backwoods Excavating & Float Service, Excel Motorsports, Pro Racing Fuels, NGK Spark Plugs, A&A Auto Parts, and Double D Construction.

The June 21-23 race will be round three for the PMRA this year. Rocky Di Lecce of Mississauga, Ontario leads in the Championship Point Award Series right now, followed by Jay Santos of Halton Hills, Ontario, and Jack Grainy of North Tonawanda, New York.

The PMRA’s two companion series, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series and the Pro Bike & Sled Series will also be competing at this upcoming event. At present Top Dragster driver Billy White of Gadshill, Ontario leads the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and Pro Bike rider Dan Cryderman of Thamesville, Ontario heads up the PBSS.

General parking is $20 per car load and weekend camping is available.

Free tickets for Saturday, June 22 can be downloaded at: www.torontomotorsportspark.com/images/File/South-Coast-Community-event-ticket.pdf

Both the Quick 32 Sportsman Series and the PBSS will hold qualifying and elimination rounds for their rain-delayed event from Martin, Michigan, as well as a full schedule for the South Coast Community Weekend event. Qualifying for these events, as well as the third race in the PMRA for 2013, will begin Saturday June 21 at 11:00 am and continue throughout the day along with eliminations for the postponed event. Round one of eliminations for the South Coast Community Weekend event are to begin at 11:15 am Sunday June 22 with the final round scheduled at 6:00 pm.
