PAVING, PAVING AND MORE PAVING OREC TAKING SHAPE

The week of September 10th has been a busy one as multiple projects have been underway at the Onawa Race and Events Complex (OREC, Onawa, IA). Projects included work inside the events center (bathrooms, concessions, offices, etc.), additional concrete barrier wall installation on the dragstrip, assembly of a grandstand seating section and preparation and paving of the pit roadway, return roads and staging lanes.

“We are taking full advantage of the dry weather and getting a lot work underway or completed” said Scott Gardner of Gardner Race Track Consulting. GRTC consultant Dan Driscoll just wrapped up a 2-week stint at OREC and will return next week to keep the momentum going. “We need to keep pushing if we want to meet our goals” mentioned Driscoll, who is the day to day project coordinator.

On Thursday, track representatives and GRTC consultants met at the facility to discuss seating, timing, the public address system and more. With a mostly clean sheet of paper to work from, all infrastructure items need to be detailed including electrical, water and more.

The idea for a drag racing and events facility came from a team of Onawa, Iowa community leaders and business owners searching for alternative uses of Onawa’s under-used municipal airport. Racing enthusiasts were overjoyed by the idea, so much that many then joined the effort to develop the dream plan. With the support of the community and Onawa City Officials, the dream is close to becoming a reality. However the project could use you help through becoming a stockholder as it’s through stockholder funding that the project will reach the goals as established. Please review the stockholder opportunity which is presented on the OREC website at www.onawaracing.com
