NORWALK, OH – This weekend isn’t just another regional race for “Sassy” Cassie Simonton and the Kon Rodz Racing team. It’s the Cavalcade of Stars. She’ll be piloting Spiro Kontos’ 260 mph Top Alcohol Funny Car down the Summit Motorsports Parkstrip in front of upwards of 30,000 fans. The team that not only races to win, but also to put on a great show for the fans, Kon Rodz is expecting to do both this weekend.

“It’s a lot more enjoyable to race in front of a large crowd. It was cool last year, to pull up to line and hear the cheer of the crowd. I love having the crowd around; it gets you pumped up, it gets you motivated,” said Simonton.

On top of a great forecast for fan attendance, the weather forecast is near perfect as well. Sunny skies all weekend and high temperatures around 80 degrees are expected.

“With the weather being perfect, we know we can get all three sessions in to get the car dialed in and ready for race day,” Cassie says.

Team owner Spiro Kontos is also looking forward to this much-anticipated race on the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series tour.

“SummitMotorsportsParkis truly a fantastic track and the Bader family sure knows how to put on great events like this. The great weather forecast and family atmosphere will make for a great weekend of racing. We hope to see everyone out there,” said Kontos.

Jet-Hot Backs Chevy High Performance Nationals Autocross Extravaganza

Courtesy of ProMedia

Santa Ana, CA — Jet-Hot Coatings is proudly sponsoring the Autocross events at Chevy High Performance Nationals June 1-3, 2012 at Atlanta Dragway located in Commerce, GA. An autocross event challenges a driver’s dexterity and skills as he or she competes against the clock.

Also pushed hard is a vehicle’s steering and braking systems as well as durability, which is where Jet-Hot comes into the picture. CHP Editor, Henry De Los Santos, shared with us, “I’m excited to have Jet-Hot High Performance Coatings’ to come onboard as the Chevy High Nationals Autocross sponsor. Jet-Hot is known as the go-to company for exhaust, engine, and drivetrain coatings and many of our reader’s are well versed in how effective the coatings help to improve performance while reducing under-hood temperatures.”

Cheryl Herrick of Jet-Hot carries the same sentiments about the benefits of using Jet-Hot in the adverse world of autocross competition. She says, “to improve performance on the track or the street choose Jet-Hot, the oldest brand in the industry for thermal management, corrosion protection and friction reduction coatings.”

Demke and Maddern Racing looking forward to Topeka

Courtesy of Maddern Racing

Topeka, KS – After an early exit from the Houston race, the Maddern Racing Team were given a homework assignment. Their task was to head back to the shop and work on their race car. It sure beats calculus or writing a twelve page essay on African tree frogs. This weekend at Heartland Park Topeka, they will present their findings to the class, the Top Alcohol Dragster class that is.

“I am looking forward to going fast,” said Maddern Racing driver Chris Demke. “The boys have been working hard on the combination, and I am confident the car will respond.”

Finding more horsepower and a few hundredths is not the easiest thing. The first step is to go through the car and perform the regular maintenance. Then the thinking caps are donned. Crew Chief Jerry Maddern, Kevin Watson, Mike Demke, and Ronald Mann all had a task to complete. Each had his own idea, but together they combined their thoughts and discussed their options. Lending a hand in the support process are newly added team members Operational Solutions, along with big brothers Peen Rite and 801 Racing. The amazing discovery and big solution remains a closely guarded secret. The final grade will be proof enough.

FRICKE MAKES THE MOVE TO ALCOHOL DRAGSTER

Written by Todd Veney/Pro Sportsman Association
Phot by David Smith

Milwaukee, WI – To most drag racing fans, there are two kinds of cars: fuel cars…and all others.

Top Alcohol Dragster driver Jackie Fricke was a fan way before she ever became a driver, and to her, Top Alcohol Dragsters are the kings of the sport. “I remember Steve Cantrell, Bruce Horner, Ken Winward, John Rose Jr., Jeff Rapp, Babette Zavor, everyone,” she says. “I could probably name everybody who ever drove an Alcohol Dragster in Division if I sat here and thought about it long enough. I’m a fan of the class first and foremost. To be driving one … it’s just a dream come true. I was always that kid at the fence who never, ever missed an alcohol session.”

Now she’s one of the drivers kids peering over the fence are waiting to see. Her family and friends just don’t quite understand why.

“My friends all have a different mentality,” Fricke says.” “They’re like, ‘Why would you want to work on a greasy car till 2 in the morning? What’s wrong with Super Comp? What’s wrong with trying to win a 10-grander?’ My father is a bracket racer through and through. He knows nothing else. He’d say, ‘What are you doing? Why would you even want to do this?’ ”

Even Fricke’s husband, Shawn, who won the first NHRA national event he ever entered with a perfect 10.90 in the 2007 Englishtown Super Street final, didn’t see the logic at first. And her mom never wanted her to race anything, much less a 270-mph car.

Victoria Day Weekend Challenge at TMP’s Cayuga Dragway Continues Tradition

Courtesy of PMRA

CAYUGA, ON – It started with a small group of dedicated racers who believed in an idea, and this idea has grown and prospered.

With the organization of the Pro Modified Racing Association late in 2004, the first event was held at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park during the May holiday weekend in 2005. Carl Spiering of Jordan Station, Ontario, won the final round of that first race over Al Billes of Barrie, Ontario.

And since that night eight years ago, the Victoria Day Weekend Challenge at Cayuga has traditionally opened the PMRA season. For 2012 this tradition continues as the fast and popular Pro Modifieds take to the track May 18-20 for the first of seven PMRA race this season.

But the Pro Modifieds are only part of the show this year. Entering its fourth season is the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts. This series features Top Dragster cars and Top Sportsman cars which compete against each other, and the top eliminator in each meets up to determine an event winner. The Top Dragster of TJ Schippling of Shakespeare, Ontario won that first event in May of 2009 over the Top Sportsman entry of Jeff Gable of Stratford, Ontario.
