Orr wins final event, Sampson wins Quick 32 2011 Championship!

CAYUGA, ON – The third season of the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts has now been completed, and a new race winner and new champion were declared at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park
over the weekend.
Tom Orr of Shawville, Quebec picked up his first win in Quick 32 Sportsman Series competition. The Orr Motorsports Dodge Stratus driver, who competes in Top Sportsman, met up with Top Dragster driver Jamie Bridge of Napanee, Ontario in the event final. Bridge fouled in the final, giving the win to Orr.
“I was hoping we would have had a real race,” Orr said about his final run with Bridge, whom he was expecting to give him some strong competition in the last race. “It was some tough racing out there.”
Orr qualified number four with his big-block Dodge with a 7.177, 190.86 in the 16-car Top Sportsman field, and eliminated Bob Bauer Jr of Elma, New York for the division final. Driving his big block-powered Undercover dragster, Bridge qualified ninth in his division, and cut a great .003 reaction time in Top Dragster final to eliminate Paolo Giust of Osgoode, Ontario in that division final.
Semi-finalists in Top Sportsman were Rob Gray of Ingersoll, Ontario, and Frank Goddard of Guelph, Ontario. Jeff Moser of Waterloo, Ontario and Billy White of Gadshill, Ontario were semi-finalists on the Top Dragster side.
Rick Kopp of Burlington, Ontario qualified number one with a 6.040, 220.87 in Top Dragster, and Spencer Hyde of Stratford, Ontario qualified number one on the Top Sportsman side with a 6.774, 203.12 posting. Both drivers did not make it past the first round.
Orr said after the race he tried to stay to his game plan, and although the rounds were competitive, he was pleased with the car.
“It was tough out there,” he said, “but we were good right to the end. I want to thank Johnny Hipwell, Bob Brown, Suzie Orr, Connie Hipwell, Kimmy Orr, Lance Orr and everyone else that helped us and all my sponsors for getting me here, including Abruzzi Racing Transmissions and Koffel’s Place.”
Before this sixth and final race of the season, Top Sportsman driver Phil Sampson had been named champion in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts Championship Point Award Series Standings. The driver of the Chaos Racing Chevy Cavalier won two races in 2011, and had amassed enough points to stay on top going into this final race. He finished with 1239 points after the last race. Bridge placed second with 1201 points, and third was Moser with 1172 points.
Taking third spot was Top Sportsman driver Darrin Grubb of Pine River, Ontario with 1122 points, and fifth was White with 1121 points. Two-time series winner Kevin Wicke of Stratford, Ontario took sixth spot in his Top Sportsman entry with 1115 points.
The Annual “Night of Champions” Championship Point Award Series Banquet for the Pro Modified Racing Association (PMRA), the Quick 32 Sportsman Series and the Pro Bike & Sled Series (PBSS) will be held at the Burlington Hotel & Conference Centre in Burlington, Ontario on Saturday, November 19, 2011.
