MLR DUO LUCAS, CRAMPTON LEAD TOYOTA IN U.S. NATIONALS QUALIFYING
INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Morgan Lucas placed third and Richie Crampton qualified fourth as the two Morgan Lucas Racing (MLR)
teammates led Toyota in qualifying for Monday’s 60th annual NHRA U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, Ind.
Lucas, who is coming off a win in the most recent event at Brainerd, is competing in just his fourth race of the season. He has advanced to the semi-finals or beyond in each race. His MLR teammate Crampton advanced to Saturday’s Traxxas Shootout Top Fuel final and with his fourth-place showing today, he has now qualified in the top five in four consecutive events. He also was the quickest in today’s final qualifying session.
Shawn Langdon, last year’s U.S. Nationals winner, will begin qualifications from the number five spot. Khalid alBalooshi qualified 14th and Antron Brown squeezed into the final spot in the field on his last qualifying attempt of the weekend. His 3.845-second pass made this the fastest Top Fuel field in history.
In Funny Car, Del Worsham topped the first two qualifying sessions of the weekend and went on to qualify fourth as the highest Camry. He’s followed by his Kalitta Motorsports teammate Alexis DeJoria in seventh. Cruz Pedregon placed 10th and Chad Head was 12th. Despite running a 4.11 on Friday night, Tony Pedregon didn’t qualify after losing that time when he didn’t place in the top-12 after Saturday’s sessions.
Barring a world record on Sunday, both Cruz Pedregon and Del Worsham have wrapped up their berths in the Funny Car Countdown to the Championship playoffs after qualifying today.
