Mike Stawicki paces PMRA Pro Modified field with new record at Grand Bend

GRAND BEND, ONTARIO – Mike Stawicki continues to dominate in Pro Modified racing. The Medina, NY driver of the G-Force Race Cars 1968 Firebird not only set the pace as top qualifier in the latest round of the Pro Modified Racing Association during the Stratford Spectacular Hot August Nationals presented by Ideal Supply & NAPA Auto Parts at the Grand Bend Motorplex, he once again broke the elapsed time record for the class in Canada.

On his third qualifying attempt in the Marydel Homes qualifying session, Stawicki posted a 5.739-second, 254.23-mph pass, which is the quickest Pro Modified pass in Canadian history. His time is only one one-thousandth of a second behind the all-time record of 5.738 seconds set by Scotty Cannon.

The event is the fourth in the 2010 PMRA tour.

Starting second in the eight-car field is Gary Irving of Toronto, Ontario, in the Al Hinds 2004 Corvette with a 6.097-second, 229.70-mph pass. Third was Bruce Boland of Hamilton, Ontario in his 1963 Corvette with a 6.131-second, 233.16-mph attempt.

Paul Noakes of London, Ontario qualified fourth in his 1963 Corvette with a 6.178, 225.22 run, and fifth was Vito Montesano of Maple, Ontario with a 6.192, 221.23 in his Camaro.

Sam Andreacchi of Toronto, Ontario placed sixth, Derek Hawker of Corbyville, Ontario will start seventh, and Eric Latino of Port Perry, Ontario rounds out the eight-car field.

Running in conjunction with the PMRA at Grand Bend, qualifying rounds were held in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts at the track. Taking the number one spot in the Top Dragster class was Michael Hinbest of Orangeville, Ontario, and Kevin Wicke of Stratford, Ontario, leads the Top Sportsman class going into eliminations.

Round one of eliminations is to take place Sunday, August 8 at 11 am.
