Boise, ID – Goodguys Rod & Custom Association President Marc Meadors took the “Pure Hell2” ‘69 Camaro Pro Mod to a runner up finish in the West Coast Outlaw Pro Modified class at the 34th Annual GREAT AMERICAN FOX HUNT presented by Little Caesars Pizza at Firebird Raceway outside Boise, Idaho this past weekend.

Coming off a career best 5.83 test run over Memorial Day weekend, Meadors and the Goodguys Racing Team were fully confident they had what it took to win the race in Boise. Qualifying #3 with a 6.181 @ 234.55 (Low ET during the final qualifying session) only boosted the team’s confidence heading into Saturday evening’s eliminations.

During the opening round of Pro Mod eliminations, Meadors dispatched the 2002 Dodge Viper of Dan Nicholson with a 6.132 @ 236.46. The 236mph blast would stand for top speed of eliminations. Meadors then defeated the ’57 Chevy of nemesis John “Wopadoo” Scialpi with a 6.222 @ 235.78 in the semi’s, setting up a final round race with the 1958 Corvette of Lee Smith.

Unfortunately for Meadors and the Goodguys Racing team, Smith saved his quickest run of eliminations for the final round running a 6.293 @ 228.02 to Meadors’ traction-busting, one and off the throttle 7.735 @ 130.03mph.

“That’s drag racing for ya,” Meadors said after his first final round appearance of the season. “Sometimes the fastest car doesn’t win. My hat is off to Lee and his team for their deserving win. We thought we had a great shot to win it. We were the quicker and faster car but didn’t put the traction down in the money round. The guys and I will learn from this and move on to Medford next week. My hat’s off to the Goodguys Rod & Custom Association, Red Line Oil, Darren Mayer of DMPE, Tim McAmis Race Cars, Andy’s T-Shirts and Ad’s That Work And of course my crew guys for all the hours and all the work they put in.”

Pure Hell2 will join the rest of the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod’s as they compete July 1st and 2nd in the 5th annual “Night of Fire” at Champion Raceway in Medford, Oregon.
