Larry Morgan’s driving prowess not enough to power FireAde Chevy to Pomona win

POMONA, CA – FireAde Pro Stock driver Larry Morgan brought down the 2015 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Larry Morgan - Pomona, SundaySeries with a bang, ripping off a .004-second reaction time against two-time champion Erica Enders at the Auto Club NHRA Finals on Sunday at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, but that wasn’t enough to hold off the charge of the 2015 Pro Stock champion, as Morgan fell in the second round.

“I feel good that I still have it,” Morgan said. “We just didn’t run well today. Something’s wrong with the car in low gear, accelerating real hard. It just won’t accelerate like we need it to down low. I don’t know what it is.

“We’ll surely work on fixing it over the winter with the fuel injection. Something’s going on with it; we just haven’t pin-pointed it.”

Morgan’s pass was 6.548 seconds at 212.43 mph, and Enders got around him with a run of 6.520 second at 212.43 mph.

Morgan also left first on Bo Butner in the first round, getting a holeshot victory after a .026 light and pass of 6.561 seconds at 211.43, compared to Butner’s 6.550 at 212.26 mph.

Morgan will finish the season seventh in the Pro Stock points standings, having won twice in three final-round appearances. Support from FireAde and Gray Motorsports helped Morgan to his best season in years.

“Hey, I had a pretty good year,” Morgan said. “We ended up seventh because Vincent (Nobile) went around me. It is what it is. Nothing we can do about it now. We won twice, and I’m glad we did that. We did well, and I’ve got to thank Johnny Gray and Ron Thames with FireAde, Streamlight, Lucas Oil. Lucas has been with me a long, long time. I appreciate all the support.”

Morgan is already looking forward to the 2016 season, when fuel injection will be introduced to the class.

“We didn’t spend enough time with this car,” Morgan said. “There were some distractions and stuff like that. If I have the people who want to spend time with this car and I have the money to do it, I’ll be OK.”
