Larry Morgan enters Norwalk eliminations fourth on the ladder
NORWALK, OH – Larry Morgan lives less than 90 minutes from Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk. It is his
home track. The driver of the FireAde Camaro Pro Stock is confident of a good showing tomorrow in front of the hometown fans. He qualified a strong fourth this evening, at 6.549 seconds at 211.86 mph, just .43 mph off Erica Enders’ pole-winning pace. A win Sunday would mean a 12th career Pro Stock victory for the hometown hero.
“Qualifying ended up pretty good today,” said Morgan. “Today was probably the best day I’ve had. We hurt a motor last night. Thank God we caught it. I noticed the vacuum was down a couple inches. We changed the engine this morning. We ran good both runs this evening. I was really impressed with both runs.”
Morgan will face V. Gaines in the first round of Pro Stock eliminations Sunday.
“We just need to make four good runs tomorrow. I’m looking forward to getting this FireAde car in the final. I’m really looking forward to tomorrow’s eliminations. This is my home track. We’ve got a whole lot of fans here, and so many people have been supporting me for a long, long time. It would be really good to win here. I’ve been runner-up three times here in Norwalk. To win would be cool.”
Morgan knows track conditions will be different between nighttime qualifying sessions and Sunday’s daytime eliminations and will adjust accordingly.
“It’s going to be very difficult to make the right moves, but it’s going to be difficult for everybody. We’ll see tomorrow. I think we’ve got an awful good car to race. I’m excited about it.”
A victory Sunday would add another 2015 edition of the coveted NHRA Wally after Morgan won the Four-Wide Nationals in Charlotte in March.
Pre-race ceremonies will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday, followed by eliminations at 11 a.m.
