LANCASTER RELEASES 2016 IHRA DRAG RACING SCHEDULE

LANCASTER, NY – Lancaster National Speedway & Dragway officials are excited to release the 2016 schedule for its LancasterFriday night IHRA Drag Racing program.

“This schedule will have race fans of all kinds circling dates on their calendars right now,” said Tim Packman, Track President. “Our weekly series is going to be strong with the number of participants we have and we look forward to growing that program, as well.

Lancaster National Dragway drops the hammer on the 2016 season on Saturday, April 16 with a
Test & Tune session and a Box/No Box Shootout. A second Test & Tune day and Box/No-Box race will be held the following Sunday, April 24.

The regular season starts on Friday, April 29 with the first points race of the year. Lancaster’s weekly IHRA Drag Racing classes will continue to be Top ET, Mod ET, Sleds & Bikes and Street for the 2016 season. The weekly car counts for these classes saw a marked increase during this past season.

Special events on the 2016 schedule include: Al Hanna’s Jet Funny cars on May 27, the 2nd annual Pro Modified Shootout on Tuesday, June 7, the Queen of Diamonds Jet Dragster on June 17, an appearance by Street Outlaws’s Kamikaze Chris and Boosted GT on July 1, the annual Nitro Night of Fire on July 15, and Alcohol Funny Cars on August 5.

“A lot of work and planning by Sharon Hughes (Drag Series Director) and Rob Kozak (Kozak Motorsports Marketing) has made some great connections to book the high-interest shows. The Street Outlaw, Nitro and Pro Mod nights have already been talked about before the schedule went out,” said Packman.

Lancaster’s biggest drag racing event of the season, Sunday Nostalgia Weekend, will take place the weekend of July 29-31. Sunday Nostalgia Weekend returned to prominence last year with three great days of racing that attracted racers from across the East Coast, plus the Clutch Artists car show that filled the infield of the stock car oval.

The 2016 schedule features five additional Sunday events, with each one having an unique theme. The newly created Empire State Drag Racing Series makes it first visit to Lancaster on May 15. This new series features Top Sportsman and Top Dragster classes as well as the Buffalo Street Outlaws. Sunday, June 12 will be Mopar Day presented by WNY Mopars. Lancaster’s first ever Kids Day headlined by the Junior Dragster class and our Teen Championship Racing program will take place on August 7. Our traditional Race of Champions event moves to Sunday this year on August 28. Our track championz will go head-to-head in the second annual Grand Championship Run-Off on October 2.

The popular Wednesday Cruise Nights at Lancaster, featuring grudge drag racing, start on Wedneday, May 4 and run through the end of September. Tuesday night Test & Tune sessions begin on Tuesday, May 17 and run weekly until September 20. Tuesday nights will feature amatuer drag racing, Junior Dragsters, Senior Nostalgia class and Teen Championship Racing.

“Sharon and the entire team are ready to welcome everyone to the Drag, Cruise and Test & Tune nights at Lancaster National Speedway & Dragway in 2016,” said Packman, “This is just another step in the track’s resurgence that began last year. The worst part is waiting for the season to start.”

The 2016 preseason registration party for both the drag racing and stock car programs will take place on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the Variety Banquet Hall at 6114 Broadway in Lancaster. Racers will be able to register their cars, purchase memberships and reserve pit pads.
