Burlington, ON – Coming off of a promising second-round showing at the Stratford Spectacular Hot August Nationals earlier this
month, Rick Kopp and his We Install It Top Dragster team are poised to finish the 2012 season on a high note during this coming weekends Thunder by the Beach event. Not only will Kopp head to Grand Bend this weekend hoping to see the same consistency from his race car that he had three weeks prior, but he will bring with him the added encouragement of racing for a cause, the BeADonor.ca campaign.
Moved by a story he read in early 2012, of a 20 year old girl from Ottawa who faced down her double lung transplant procedure by chronicling it through her alungstory.ca blog, Kopp decided that he wanted to do his part to help raise awareness for the cause. Hélène Campbell, who is now on the long road to recovery after a successful surgery, is the reason behind the support Kopp has shown to the BeADonor.ca campaign.
“Well I think it’s a gift of life right. If something happens to you and you can’t use it, to save someone else’s life is pretty important,” said a compassionate Kopp. “Tragedy strikes everyone at some point, so if you can help someone out along the way I think it’s a pretty cool thing.”
According to the Trillium Gift of Life Network, Ontario’s organ and tissue donation and transplant agency, Ontario residents can register their consent to organ donation in just two minutes online at BeADonor.ca. Even if you think you are registered, you can check your status at the site. A signed donor card does not mean you are registered. One donor can save up to eight lives and enhance the lives of 75 others through the gift of tissue.
Kopp currently sits 15th in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts, and would like nothing more than to have his best outing of the season this weekend in support of the cause and for all of his sponsors. “We’ve kinda struggled, we’ve had some gremlins throughout the season so obviously it would be good to go some rounds and make the final,” said Kopp. “We’re normally number one qualifier at every event and we’d like to get that performance back this weekend.”
Qualifying for the Quick 32 Sportsman Series gets started on Friday evening in conjunction with the PMRA and PBSS racing series, also in attendance this weekend.
