Inaugural Sportsman Nationals set to take place at Historic St. Thomas Raceway Park

ST. THOMAS, ON – The Inaugural Sportsman Nationals present by J&S Collision and Degroote-Hill Chevrolet GMC Buick is in its final stages of preparation for this up-coming weekend, August 16-18 at St Thomas Raceway Park. The event will feature Championship Bracket Racers from the DSE Automotive Sportsman Racing Series as well as the newly re-formed Heads Up Racing Association (HURA) who are all looking to put on a weekend of spectacular racing and entertainment for fans.

Through its 51 years of operation, St Thomas Raceway Park has hosted some of the biggest names in Drag Racing including Canadians such as Al Billies, current NHRA Nitro Funny Car pilot Jeff Arend as well as former NHRA World Champions John Force, Tony Pedregon and Shirley Muldowney.

For the DSE Sportsman Racing Series, this will be the first time the series has ever traveled to the Raceway and the excitement level from the Series Competitors is off the charts. To make the event even more special, Jr Dragster competitors will be vying for special NHRA JDRL Challenge trophies both days (Saturday and Sunday) as well as special prizes such as passes to Canada’s Wonderland Theme Park.

Adding to the excitement of the event will be the addition of the Renegade Race Fuels Extreme Bike/Sled category and the HeadsUpRacer.com Frantic 14. Both classes run on set qualified ladders and usually feature some of the fastest Sportsman Bracket Racing around Southern Ontario. Extreme Bike/Sled and Frantic 14 will be contested each day with Saturday slated to get 3 qualifying attempts then eliminations and Sunday two attempts with eliminations to follow.

Gates open at 11 am Friday for the Day Time test and tune, 4 pm Friday evening for regular weekend racing, Saturday Sportsman Time/Trials start at 10 am with eliminations to follow, HURA Qualifying is set for 2,4 and 6 pm Saturday and eliminations on Sunday at 1,3 and 5 pm.
