HEMI ENGINE GUESTS AT BRITISH DRAG RACING HALL OF FAME GALA

As well as celebrating the pioneers of British drag racing, with the presentation of the Lucas Oil Global Achievement BDRHOFSticker2012Award, this year’s British Drag Racing Hall of Fame Gala Awards Dinner is also celebrating the historic drag racing role played by the Mopar Hemi V8 engine. First introduced on Chrysler production cars 65 years ago, the special award is being presented to Mopar at the event being held at the Savill Court Hotel, Windsor Great Park on November 21st.

As part of these celebrations and thanks to ICE Automotive and Tim Garlick, a very important VIP guest will be the Hemi engine from Tim’s Apache Funny car.

It is also hoped to have the 354 Chrysler Hemi engine from the Allard Chrysler dragster but that is yet to be confirmed.

Meet the legends

As well as the Gala Awards Dinner, November the 21st also includes a unique Legends Bench Racing Session being held during the afternoon sponsored by Beech Underwriting, supported by US Automotive and Julie Braskett.

The discussion will focus on the early days of drag racing and those who have confirmed they will be taking part so far include Big Daddy Don Garlits, Rat Trap’s Ron Hope, Freight Train’s Bob Muravez (AKA Floyd Lippencotte Jnr), Funny Car Champion Bruce Larson, Blue Max Crew Chief ‘Waterbed’ Fred Miller, Norwegian drag racing pioneer Fred Larsen, the NHRA’s Eileen Daniels and Top Fuel Bike champion Larry McBride. American TV Network broadcaster Jack Korpela will lead the discussions.

The session will be captured on video and will take place in the Library at the Savill Court Hotel. It is due to start at 1.00pm Saturday November 21st but will be concluded by 3.00pm giving everyone ample time to get ready for the Gala Awards Dinner later that day. It will be a ticket only (but free to enter) event with preference given to those attending the Gala Dinner. If you live close by it promises to be a very special couple of hours in the company of some of drag racing’s most famous personalities.

And not all the stars will be on the stage because many well-known UK drag racing personalities will be in the audience so expect a lively discussion with some great stories. There are still some tickets available so if you want to attend the Bench Racing Session then please contact Geoff@beechunderwriting.co.uk or telephone Stu Bradbury on 01933 279102.
