Pleasanton, CA – The Goodguys Racing team subscribes whole heartedly to the old adage “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”

After a tumultuous 9-month rebuilding process following a freak accident last September, the team’s Pro Mod ’69 Camaro “Pure Hell 2” driven by Marc Meadors made its 2011 debut last weekend at the PSCA-K & N Filters “Racin’ 4 Jason” Nationals at the Strip @ Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The team’s new look and new engine combination paid immediate dividends!

After sitting out the first two Pro Street qualifying sessions with a transmission gremlin, Pure Hell2 made its one and only qualifying run count in the “last chance” session, clicking off an effortless 6.09 @ 237mph to land in the #2 spot on the eliminations ladder.

The run earned the team a first round-bye in Sunday’s eliminations but Meadors legged out a 6.08 @ 236 on the solo run to gather as much data as possible. A second round blast of 6.09 @ 237mph was followed by a 6.12 @ 238 in the 3rd elimination round. An untimely and undiagnosed oil leak kept the team on the sidelines and out of their semi final matchup with Mike Maggio.

The new found performance was just what the team was looking for. “It was a long off season for this team” said owner/driver Marc Meadors.

“We took the car to Infineon Raceway early last week for our initial test runs with the new combination and ran 6.01 @ 187mph with the ‘chutes out at 1,000ft right off the trailer, so we knew right away we had a car that can win races this season.

We’re continuing to gel as a team and gain confidence. Pure Hell2 is gonna be a handful this year. We’re going to test some more before our next race in Boise, Idaho June 24, 25 & 26.

I couldn’t be out here doing this without the help of the Goodguys Rod & Custom Association, Red Line Oil, Darren Mayer of DMPE, Tim McAmis Race Cars, Bradco Engineering, Bunker Race Cars nd of course my crew guys, Jason Bunker, Jeff Accacian, Billy Ferreira and Cole Ruchenet  for all the hours and all the work they put in.”
