Fast race has FireAde Pro Stock driver Larry Morgan fired up for Reading

READING, PA – The last time the Pro Stock national elapsed time record was lowered, FireAde driver Larry Morgan Larry Morganwon the race. Can the scenario repeat itself this weekend at the NHRA Keystone Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway? Morgan certainly hopes so.

“I hope we can get out there and do it again,” Morgan said. “If I can drive right, I’ll be just fine.”

Jason Line set the Pro Stock e.t. record of 6.455 seconds during the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMax Dragway in Charlotte in May, and Morgan went to the winner’s circle with a winning pass of 6.464 seconds that remains tied for the third-quickest e.t. in history.

Like Charlotte, Reading is known for having a track and conditions conducive for national records. With the weather forecast calling for cool temperatures this weekend, the Pro Stock field will be going after the record again.

“The weather looks cool, so it’s going to be fast, if the rain holds,” Morgan said. “I know I’m excited to go there. We’ve been plenty fast this year, and we should be in Reading, too. We’ve just got to make sure we don’t make any mistakes and that we make the right calls.”

Reading marks the third event of the six-race Countdown to the Championship that crowns the Pro Stock champion. Morgan, winner of two races in 2015, sits fifth in the standings and is only 51 points out of second place.

He’s had a remarkable turnaround season in 2015 after joining forces with sponsor FireAde and engine supplier Gray Motorsports, but Morgan also wants to win the Pro Stock championship.

“The points are still looking good for us,” Morgan said. “But it’s time to make a move, and with FireAde, Gray Motorsports, and everybody behind us, I think we’ll be all right. As long as everything goes smooth and the weather holds up, we’ll be just fine.”

Pro Stock qualifying sessions are scheduled for 1:15 and 4:15 p.m., Friday, and 11:15 and 2:45 p.m., Saturday. Eliminations are scheduled to begin at noon on Sunday.
