Dominating Performances Headline Joe’s Transmission Services Canada Day Spectacular Weekend

CAYUGA, ON –  Great weather coupled with perfect track conditions at Toronto Motorsports Park created the ingredients  needed for a fantastic weekend of close and competitive racing as DSE Sportsman Series racers were contending for NHRA Hardware in both the Summit Racing Equipment “King of the Track” program as well as the Jr Drag Racing League Challenge. Additionally Saturday night also laid host to the 1st Annual Mike Marshall Memorial Race, an event created to pay tribute to long time Mopar racer Mike Marshall as well as raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society.

Hill Racing/ATI Performance Products Modified racers would be the first category to hit the track Saturday, with racers looking to take home the Saturday Main event win along with a spot in the Run-Off final for the NHRA Awards later in the day.  After 5 rounds of steller No box racing, two Chevy powered mustangs remained, first year racer Alex Lepp and his Small Block Chevy powered 1986 Mustang and the Big Block Chevy powered 1989 Mustang of Andrew Stirk. Lepp would take the head start dialed 10.94 to Stirk’s 10.00. However it would be Stirk’s starting line advantage that would allow him to push Lepp into a Breakout allowing Stirk to take the win and move into the Run-off Final

Renegade Race Fuels Super Pro saw a re-match from the DSE Season Opener Final Round with multi time Super Pro Class Champion Steve “Freight-Train” Ferstl in his 2008 S&W Dragster, taking on recent IHRA Mopar Canadian Nationals Super Rod winner Andrew Stirk and his 1963 Corvette Roadster.  Both racers were prepared for the final with Stirk launching to a .007 light to Ferstl’s .016. However it would be Stirk’s 9.899 ET on his 9.90 Dial that would best Ferstl’s 7.787 on a 7.81 Dial to take the double break out win, and secure Stirk both spots in the NHRA “King of the Track” Wally Run-off and thus secure Stirk’s 2nd “King of the Track” Championship in the past three years.

Andrew Would go on to complete the first known “Double-Double” in Toronto Motorsports Park history by driving back into the Sunday Winner Circles in Renegade Race Fuels Super Pro by defeating Allan Bain and his 1993 Rear Engine Dragster, then defeating Bob Richards and his 1963 corvette in the Hill Racing/ATI Performance Products Modified Final Round.

Corriveau Concrete Jr Dragster found sixteen of Ontario and Western New York’s toughest Jr pilots converge on Toronto Motorsports Park to attempt to take home their own NHRA hardware both days. Saturday’s Final pitted defending Jr Dragster Points Champion Emily Ramundo up against the always-tough Morgan Manwaring. Ramundo would take a sizable Reaction Time advantage, however it would be Morgan pulling out the win at the finish line and taking home her first NHRA Jr Dragster Challenge “Wally” Trophy.

Sunday’s Jr Dragster Final round match up would see Morgan Manwaring back in the final attempting to double-up on the weekend. Hoping to put a stop to Morgan’s sweep would be Jacob Halleen in his Niagara Fall’s NY based Mike Bos  car. Both racers dialed Heads-up at 7.92, but Morgan would reverse the roles in this Final, taking a large Starting Line advantage and using it to hold off Halleen to take home her Second NHRA Jr “Wally” in as many Days.

Rounding out the “Two for Two” club on Canada Day weekend would be DSEAutomotive Super Bike/Sled racer Derek Dwyer and his 1995 Polaris Storm Snowmobile.  Saturdays final matched Dwyer up against his teammate Dan Earl on his 1995 Polaris Ultra.  Both riders nailed the .400 staggered start Pro Tree with .053 and .059 lights, but the Dial-In’s would be the determining factor in this race as both riders would break out with Dwyer doing so by .050 less than Earl.

Sunday’s Final Round found two time defending DSE Super Bike/Sled Champion Pete Stewart working his way through a tough field to take on Dwyer. In the Final Stewart launched with a fantastic .028 light and proceeded to run a 9.67 on his 9.60 dial in, however it would be no match for Dwyer’s .013 light and stellar 10.027 ET on his 10.02 Dial In allowing Derek to take home his second DSE Iron-Tree Trophy of 2014.
