Di Lecce, Vardy, De Jonge, and Orfanidis top qualifiers at TMP’s Cayuga Dragway in PMRA, Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and PBSS racing

CAYUGA, ON – Qualifying sessions for the Pro Modified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto PMRA - Martin 131 Rain out winnerParts, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series presented by Wiseco Performance Products were completed today at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park.

And in a PMRA race postponed from a week previous, Rocky Di Lecce was victorious winning his first PMRA event.

Di Lecce, of Mississauga, also paced the PMRA Pro Mods by qualifying number one for the Cayuga race, running a 5.964-second, 242.98-mph pass. Qualifying number two was Sam Andreacchi of Toronto, Ontario Rob Atchison of London, Ontario qualified next, followed by Paolo Giust of Osgoode, Ontario and Jay Santos of Halton Hills, Ontario to round out the top five.

Two former PMRA champions, 2012 champion Eric Latino of Whitby, Ontario, and three-time champ Bruce Boland of Hamilton, Ontario, did not make qualifying attempts due to separate on-track mishaps during testing.

Glen Vardy of Burlington, Ontario posted a 6.373, 214.74 to take number one spot in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series on the Top Dragster side, while Fred De Jonge of Puslinch, Ontario qualified number one in Top Sportsman with a 6.670, 222.22 in his Cobalt.

Second in qualifying for Top Dragster was Tony Positano of Toronto, Ontario, followed by Michael Kalin of Niagara Falls, New York, Bill Moloughney of Shawville, Quebec, Sam Christian of Amherst, New York, and Billy White of Gadshill, Ontario.

In Top Sportsman, Bill Wilson of Ingersoll, Ontario, qualified second, followed by Wes Goddard of Guelph, Ontario, Kevin Wicke of Stratford, Ontario, and Spencer Hyde of Stratford, Ontario.

Pacing the PBSS with his number one qualifying position was Pro Bike rider John Orfanidis of Toronto Ontario with a 7.750, 170.13 on his Suzuki. John Swartz of Lancaster, New York qualified second, Dan Cryderman of Thamesville, Ontario third, Kevin McKay of Ingersoll, Ontario fourth, and Randy Hope of London, Ontario fifth.

Eliminations in the PMRA, Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the PBSS begin Sunday, May 19 at 11:00 am.

The postponed PMRA race from Martin, Michigan was completed today, and Di Lecce drove his 1968 Camaro to his first win over Jay Santos. Di Lecce had qualified number four in the Martin event, and Santos had qualified number one. Jack Grainy, who won the Martin race in 2012, was a semi-finalist.

The PMRA, Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the PBSS race in several events throughout the season, offering an exciting and colourful package of drag racing action.
