Davis Making First JEGS Allstars Appearance in Chicago

Written by Ian Tocher

SUWANEE, GA — Ronnie Davis would like nothing better than to follow up his 2010 NHRA Division 2 Top Sportsman championship with a win this weekend in the 27th annual JEGS Allstars event July 9, at Route 66 Raceway, near Chicago.

The JEGS Allstars competition is a unique event that crowns individual champions in 10 separate Sportsman racing classes, as well as an overall team champion. Racers qualify for the prestigious event by earning points in their NHRA home divisions during year-long battles in the following NHRA Lucas Oil categories: Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Competition, Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street, Top Dragster, and Top Sportsman.

“This is just the second year that Top Sportsman has been included in the JEGS Allstars event and it’s the first year I’ve been fortunate enough to be a part of it,” said Davis, who will be competing in his 1963 Corvette powered by an 822-cubic-inch, nitrous-injected engine built by NASCAR’s famous Roush Yates Performance Racing Engines.

“Last year, my Davis Golf Cart Sales teammate, Billy Thigpen, was number one and I was number two in JEGS Allstars points and Billy even offered to let me go in his place, but I wanted him to have the experience as the rightful points leader,” Davis added. “So it feels extra good to have qualified on my own for the Division 2 team this year. And it’s an honor to race at Route 66 Raceway; it’s a real nice race track.”

A total of 76 drivers representing 31 states and Canadian territories will participate on seven divisional teams for a share of more than $120,000 in the competition, which is being held during the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Route 66 Nationals.

“The JEGS Allstars race is a first-class event and I want to thank the people at JEGS for everything they’re doing. It’s just a good all-round deal for Sportsman racers to get some good coverage and shows some real appreciation for what we do,” the Suwanee, Georgia-based golf cart dealer said.

“I’m really looking forward to competing with my Division 2 teammates and hope we can bring home a seventh JEGS Allstars team championship to the Southeast Division.”

Ronnie Davis Racing greatly appreciates the sponsorship and support of Roush Yates Performance Engine Group, Rock Batteries, J.H.
