Cayuga opener ushers in 2010 PMRA and Quick 32 Sportsman Series Tours

Both series to compete May 21-23 at the fabled drag strip of Toronto Motorsports Park
 
CAYUGA, ONTARIO – When Carl Spiering won the first Pro Modified Racing Association race held in May of 2005, a new era in Pro Modified drag racing was established.  Since that time, the PMRA has been a big part of the makeup on the Cayuga Dragway at Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, Ontario, and has been a favorite facility with the fans and the teams.
 
Canada’s oldest drag strip, which began operations in 1954 and has continued to the present, has traditionally been the season opener and season closer for the PMRA. For several years the series championship was decided during the final event in the fall of each year since the PMRA started racing at the fabled Kohler Road strip in Southern Ontario.
 
And once again, this time for its sixth season, Cayuga will host the opening round of the 2010 PMRA season, with the Victoria Day Weekend Spectacular May 21-23. A record number of teams in both the PMRA and the Quick 32 Sportsman Series are expected to be ready to do battle on the quarter-mile drag strip.

In 2009, the newly-formed Quick 32 Sportsman Series debuted, and after its successful initial season, it will hold its first race of the 2010 season with the PMRA over the Victoria Day Weekend.
 
The track will host an event in the AHRA (American Hot Rod Association) 2010 Reunion Tour, as this re-born sanction returns to the mainstream of drag racing competition.
 
Both the PMRA and the Quick 32 Sportsman Series will take part in this auspicious occasion, the first time the AHRA has raced in Canada for decades.
 
The event is scheduled for July 2-3.
 
“We are pleased to have PMRA and the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts to be included in the AHRA Reunion Tour race at Cayuga,” stated AHRA CEO Troy Moe. “These two classes will offer an exciting dimension to the largest Nitro race being offered to fans in the Ontario area this year.”
 
Neale Armstrong, Race Director for the drag strip, said he once again looks forward to the involvement of the PMRA and Quick 32 Sportsman Series.
 
“The PMRA has proven itself to be a solid, popular class,” noted Armstrong. “And now with the inclusion of the Quick 32 Sportsman Series cars, we have a well-rounded show which offers a wide range of cars for the fans.
 
“Both series will be a complement to the big AHRA weekend we have scheduled,” he continued. “That weekend will be one of the biggest and best in Canadian drag racing to date.”
 
As Director of Operations for both the PMRA and Quick 32 Sportsman Series, Bruce Mehlenbacher looks forward to returning to the Cayuga Dragway.
 
“Cayuga is a well-prepped track, and our teams love running there,” he said. “For many of our teams, it is their home track, and a lot learned their skills on this track. We are pleased once again to be returning to one of the top facilities in this country.”
 
The Pro Modified Racing Association (PMRA), www.PMRA.ca and the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts, www.Quick32.ca will headline the Victoria Day Weekend event, which will include a round in the TNT Super Series, and the popular Can-Am Stock/Super Stock Series.
 
Qualifying for the two-day event gets underway Saturday, May 22, at 1:00 p.m., with other sessions at 3:30 and 6:00 p.m. Elimination rounds for the Quick 32 Sportsman Series start Sunday May 23 at 11:15 a.m. and the PMRA at 1:00 p.m.
