SIX TOYOTA DRIVERS IN CONTENTION FOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
Concord, NC – Toyota drivers Shawn Langdon, Khalid alBalooshi, Antron Brown and Morgan Lucas are among the 10 drivers that have qualified for the Countdown to the Championship Top Fuel playoffs, while Cruz Pedregon and Del Worsham both qualified in Funny Car. Langdon is the number one overall qualifier in Top Fuel and will begin the six-race Countdown with a 30-point advantage over second.
LANGDON GIVES TOYOTA U.S. NATIONALS WIN; SWEEPS INDY
INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Toyota driver Shawn Langdon stormed to the U.S. Nationals Top Fuel title at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis on Monday, completing a weekend that not only saw him win the sport’s most prestigious race, but the Traxxas Shootout and clinch the number one seed for the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series’ Countdown to the Championship playoffs.
Langdon defeated Pat Dakin, Terry McMillen, Doug Kalitta and Steve Torrence on the way to his series-high fifth victory of the season. He also defeated Torrence in the final to win the $100,000 prize in the Traxxas Shootout on Sunday.
“It was just a perfect weekend,” said Langdon. “First, the five-year extension for the team, then winning the Traxxas Shootout and today winning our most prestigious race of the year…it was just a perfect weekend.
It’s a testament of just how great this Al-Anabi Racing team really is. Now, we have just one goal remaining (the championship).”
BROWN TAKES TOP FUEL #1 QUALIFIER AT U.S. NATIONALS: LANGDON WINS $100,000 SHOOT-OUT, CLINCHES #1 SEED
INDIANAPOLIS, IN– Antron Brown won the Top Fuel pole, while Del Worsham placed third in Funny Car to lead Toyota in qualifying for Monday’s NHRA U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis.
Despite qualifying fifth for tomorrow’s eliminations, it was Shawn Langdon who walked away as the big winner on the day, taking home the $100,000 prize for winning the Traxxas Shoot-Out. In addition, by qualifying into tomorrow’s field, Langdon clinched the number one spot for the Countdown to the Championship playoffs.
“We couldn’t have scripted it any better,” said Langdon. “That $100,000 feels good. From now on, everything we do the rest of the year is going to be under pressure – we’re at the biggest race of the year this weekend and then it’s six races left to win the championship.”

TORRANCE, CA – Al-Anabi Racing drivers Shawn Langdon and Khalid alBalooshi each advanced to the Top Fuel semi-finals to lead Shawn Langdon – Sonoma – Competition PlusToyota in today’s NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series’ Lucas Oil Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway in Brainerd, Minn.
With another trip to the semi-finals, Landon has closed in on the number one seed for the Countdown to the Playoffs. He will take an almost insurmountable 121-point lead into the U.S. Nationals. He defeated Bob Vandergriff and David Grubnic today. For alBalooshi, he registered wins over T.J. Zizzo and Doug Kalitta to move on to the semi-finals or beyond for the fifth time this season and officially clinches his first Countdown berth.
AL-ANABI DUO LEADS TOYOTA IN BRAINERD NHRA QUALIFYING
TORRANCE, CA – Al-Anabi Racing teammates Khalid alBalooshi and Shawn Langdon qualified third and fourth in Top Fuel to lead Toyota in qualifying for Sunday’s Lucas Oil Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway in Brainerd, Minn.
Both drivers were consistently fast over the course of the weekend with alBalooshi topping two of the four sessions, while Langdon earned top-three bonus points in a pair of sessions. Langdon will take a 151-point lead in the championship race into tomorrow’s eliminations. If he can maintain that advantage, he will clinch the top spot for the upcoming Countdown to the Championship playoffs.
Antron Brown also qualified in the top half of the field with a sixth and earned two bonus points for being second-quick in the final qualifying session.
Brandon Bernstein qualified 10th and Morgan Lucas, coming off a victory at the most recent event in Seattle, earned the 12th position. Lucas is the defending race champion as well.

LUCAS PUTS TOYOTA IN SEATTLE NHRA WINNER’S CIRCLE
TORRANCE, CA – Morgan Lucas defeated David Grubnic in the final to earn his first Top Fuel win of the season to lead Toyota in today’s Morgan Lucas – Competition PlusNHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series’ O’Reilly Auto Parts Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways in Seattle, Wash.
It was the second time in two weeks that Lucas had advanced to the finals, but after losing in Sonoma, he came away victorious today.
He defeated Doug Kalitta, Khalid alBalooshi and Shawn Langdon before matching up with Grubnic in the final. The win was the 11th for Toyota in Nitro competition this season.
LANGDON TAKES TOP SPOT IN SEATTLE NHRA QUALIFYING
TORRANCE, CA – Just moments after Morgan Lucas had broken the track record with the first 3.7-second run in track history, Shawn Langdon absolutely demolished the old mark to take the top spot in qualifying for Sunday’s O’Reilly Auto Parts Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways in Seattle, Wash.
Langdon’s record 3.765-second run bettered the previous track record of 3.802 by a whopping .037 seconds. It gave Langdon his fourth number one qualifier of the season and broadened his point lead to 112 points heading into Sunday.
Khalid alBalooshi qualified fourth for the third consecutive race, Morgan Lucas was fifth and Antron Brown placed sixth to give Toyota-sponsored dragsters four of the top six spots in qualifying. Brandon Bernstein, who won in Seattle in 2005, rounded out the group with a 15th.
Del Worsham led the way in Funny Car with a strong 4.065-second run in his DHL Toyota Camry to earn the number three spot in qualifying. His teammate Alexis DeJoria also broke into the 4.0s with a 4.099 pass, good for ninth. Tony Pedregon was 11th and Cruz Pedregon placed 13th. He will match-up with Worsham in the first round on Sunday.

LANGDON CLOSING IN ON TOP SPOT FOR COUNTDOWN – After trading the point lead back and forth with Tony Schumacher for much of the season, Shawn Langdon has stretched his lead out to 102 points heading into this weekend’s Northwest Nationals. The Al-Anabi Racing Toyota driver is coming off his fourth victory of the season at Sonoma. Langdon hasn’t simply been fast, but extremely consistent as well. He has now advanced to the semi-finals or finals in nine of his last 11 events. He has already earned a berth in the Countdown to the Championship playoffs and if he can maintain the lead through the U.S. Nationals, Langdon will receive a 20-point bonus and begin the Countdown with a 30-point lead over second.
COUNTING DOWN – Three more Toyota drivers are likely to clinch this weekend, another appears to be safe and one other is in the midst of a fierce points battle. Antron Brown, Khalid alBalooshi and Cruz Pedregon should qualify for a spot in the Countdown playoffs this weekend, while Morgan Lucas could clinch his spot with a strong run in Seattle. For Del Worsham, though, it likely will go right down to the U.S. Nationals. Worsham is currently ninth, but just 20 points ahead of 11th.
