State Capitol IHRA SSNC Event Rescheduled

Due to recent torrential rains and an inclement weather forecast, the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) and State Capitol Raceway have postponed the June 1-4 IHRA Summit Sportsman National Championship event until the weekend of Sept. 7-10, 2017, the sanctioning body announced today.

The state of Louisiana, and specifically the Port Allen area, have endured many days of heavy rain, and this week’s forecast calls for more of the same for several days. In addition, major flooding is expected from the Mississippi River, and the area is under a flood warning through at least June 20.

“The owners and management of State Capitol are being very proactive in making this decision based on the conditions at the facility and what can be expected in the next several days” IHRA division director Frank Kohutek said. “With the rain the area is expecting this week and through the weekend, it will be difficult to find adequate pit parking and tough to have the track in ideal shape. We are making this call early so the racers will not travel to the event when its completion is virtually impossible. We look forward to running this race weekend when we are able to provide the best experience possible for our competitors.”

Summit Motorsports Park Named 2016 NMCA Track of the Year

During an especially engaging NMCA awards ceremony on Dec. 9, 2016 at the Indiana Convention Center, Summit Motorsports Park was named 2016 NMCA Track of the Year.

“NMCA is proud to have Summit Motorsports Park as a partner track, but even more proud to have it as a close and personal friend,” said Steve Wolcott, president and CEO of ProMedia Events, which produces NMCA, NMCA WEST and NMRA. “The B Guarantee (the park’s pledge to present the best show possible at the best price possible) was instrumental in the development of our own ProPledge customer service program, which has helped NMCA grow.”

The 2016 NMCA event at Summit Motorsports Park saw nearly twice as many cars and spectators as the 2015 event despite an unfavorable weather forecast, which Summit Motorsports Park president Bill Bader, Jr. attributes to the caliber of cars and competition featured.
