AUTO CLUB FAMOSO WINS TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP AT NHRA PACIFIC DIVISION SUMMIT RACING SERIES CHAMPIONSHIPS

LAS VEGAS – Auto Club Famoso Raceway captured the team championship while the husband and wife team of C.W. and Sacha Hoefer each grabbed wins at this weekend’s NHRA Pacific Division Summit Racing Series Championships.  The Hoefers will be joined by Katelyn Whynaught, Ryan Mangus, and Rick Newport in advancing to the NHRA Summit National Championship at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona in November.

Sunday’s Summit Showdown final round produced three of the four winners from California. Sacha Hoefer of Calimesa, booked her trip to Pomona by outlasting Tim Arnswalf of Indio, Calif.,  in the Sportsman final round. Hoefer recorded a victory pass of 12.182 seconds, 103.57 mph.

NHRA PACIFIC DIVISION SUMMIT SERIES FINALS HEADS TO THE STRIP

LAS VEGAS – The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway will host the 2017 NHRA Pacific Division Summit Racing Series Finals, October 6-8.

Top drivers from NHRA Member Tracks across the Pacific Division will compete in five classes for individual and team honors.  Classes include Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman, Motorcycle and High School.  The event will also feature the Summit Super Showdown, a race within a race where the top points earning drivers from each track square off in head-to-head competition.  Summit Super Showdown winners in the Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman and Motorcycle categories will advance to the Summit Series National Championship against the winners from NHRA’s other six divisions at the Auto Club NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif., in November.

NHRA SOUTH CENTRAL DIVISION READY TO RUMBLE AT THUNDER IN THE HEARTLAND

LEXINGTON, OK – Thunder Valley Raceway Park will host Thunder in the Heartland, the final event for the NHRA South Central Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, on October 6-8.

The event is one of 45 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Series earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s SDPC Top Sportsman Series, SDPC Top Dragster Series and NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series will run in conjunction with the event along with Jet Dragster Exhibitions.

ROCKINGHAM DRAGWAY TO HOST NHRA SOUTHEAST DIVISION SUMMIT RACING SERIES FINALS

ROCKINGHAM, NC – The top bracket racers in NHRA’s Southeast division will be on hand at Rockingham Dragway, October 6-8, for the 2017 NHRA Summit Racing Series Southeast Division Finals.  Racers in five categories from across the region will compete for individual and team honors and a share of the cash and contingency purse.  Racing classes include Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman, Super Pro Motorcycle and High School.

Individual champions from the Summit Racing Series will advance to the Summit National Championship at the Auto Club NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif., in November.  They will compete against the winners from NHRA’s other six divisions for national championships and a winner-take-all $5,000 payday.  All racers who run in Pomona will receive an additional $3,000.

WICHITA FALLS TAKES TEAM TITLE; HOWARD REPEATS

ENNIS, TX – The team from Wichita Falls Raceway took home the Team Championship and Jake Howard defended his win from last year at Texas Motorplex for the NHRA Summit Racing Series South Central Division finals.

Wichita Falls racked up 74 points led by Howard and Eric Sandlin who took home wins in Sportsman and Super Pro respectively.  Thunder Valley Raceway Park followed in second at 71 and Royal Purple Raceway in third at 61.  Racers from 12 tracks in the South Central Division competed at the event.

Defending Sportsman champion Howard, from Lavon, Texas, took the win again this year with a holeshot advantage in his ’70 GTO and a time of 7.577 seconds at 86.81 mph against Amanda Wolter from Mustang, Okla., running 8.367, 83.28

Eight Drivers Capture IHRA Summit Sportsman National Championship Titles

WEST SALEM, OH – Rob Harvischak from Warren, Ohio won Sunday’s International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Summit Sportsman National Championship race at Dragway 42 to become IHRA Top Sportsman World Champion.

Harvischak’s victory allowed him to overtake Marlon Goates, the Troy, Texas driver who came into the weekend as the class leader.

Troy Williams Jr. from Daytona Beach, Fla., captured the Top Dragster championship. Williams captured victories at Palm Beach and Carolina and reached the final-round both days at the season-opening event in Immokalee.

MILAN DRAGWAY WINS TITLE; FOUR HEAD TO NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

INDIANAPOLIS – The team from Milan Dragway combined for a total of 53 points to win the Team Championship for the 2017 NHRA North Central Division Summit Finals at Lucas Oil Raceway with individual winners led by local racer Boyd Butcher in Pro ET. Host track Lucas Oil Raceway finished second in the team standings at 52 with Summit Motor Sports Park coming in third at 48 points.

Butcher, Beech Grove, Ind., took the win with his ’73 Nova, and ran 6.773 seconds at 101.21 mph against Jim Laughlin, Albany, Wis., in his ‘78 Malibu.  Laughlin left early with a red light handing the win to Butcher.

Carli Keil, Rossford, Ohio, faced off with Bill Swain, Ionia, Mich., in the Super Pro final with Keil taking the early lead. Keil’s final time was 4.911 seconds at 139.39 mph with Swain close behind with a time of 4.833 at 138.96 mph.

BANDIMERE TAKES TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP; PIPER, JOHNSON, LAMB & SPRACKLIN HEAD TO NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

TOPEKA, KS – Bandimere Speedway took home the team title at this weekend’s NHRA Summit Racing Series West Central Division Finals at Heartland Park Topeka, Topeka, Kan. The team from Bandimere shared the winner’s circle with five individual winners including Kanas racers Todd Piper and Eugene Lamb.

Bandimere Speedway racked up 52 points and needed everyone one of them as I-29 Dragstrip and the host track of Heartland Park landed in a tie for second at 51.

Piper, Wamego, Kan., raced his ’14 dragster to a lap of 7.230 seconds at 180.24 mph to knock out Dustin Smiley, Emerson, Iowa.  Piper was out first with a great .003 second reaction time as Smiley closed in hard but ran out of track coming up a few hundredths of a second short.

CECIL COUNTY DRAGWAY CLAIMS TEAM TITLE; FIVE HEADED TO NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

NUMIDIA, PA – The team from Cecil County Dragway combined for a total of 65 points to run away with the trophy and the Team Championship for the 2017 NHRA Summit Racing Series Northeast Division Finals at Numidia Dragway.  Individual winners were led by local racer and Numidia Dragway runner Mike MacKey in Street followed by Todd Marin, Butch Weinreich, Austin Youndt, and Kevin Kohr.

Host track Numidia Dragway held on to finish second in the team standing with 45 points as Mason Dixon Dragway and Esta Safety Park tied for third at 44.

GREEN, SCHLENKER, AND STEFFEN HEAD TO POMONA WITH WINS

WOODBURN, OR – The Summit Racing Series was in town this past weekend at Woodburn Dragstrip in Woodburn, Ore. Dale Green and John Floyd Jr.raced to victory this past weekend. In addition, Andy Schlenker and Robert Steffen took top honors in the Summit Racing Series Race of Champions.

Local Super Pro runner Green of Covington took the starting line against Chris Jaggers, Middelton, Idaho in the final round. Green upended Jaggers, running 8.935 seconds, 163.54 mph. Jaggers followed at 7.833 seconds, 151.59 mph. The NHRA Northwest division received the Super Pro wildcard in the Summit Racing Series drawing earlier this season. Dale Green will represent the Northwest division in the Summit Racing National Championship.
