Tucker regroups for better battle against his Yankee counterparts

DALLAS, TX – Popular driver Shane Tucker wants to experience sustained success at the highest level of drag racing — the NHRA Mello Yello Shane TuckerDrag Racing Series — and he has a firm plan in place to reach that goal.

The 29-year-old native of Gold Coast, Australia, whet his appetite in 2014 with a part-time slate of 10 Pro Stock races, highlighted by a semifinal finish in Chicago. Racking up thousands of frequent-flyer miles along the way, Tucker’s toe dip in the shark tank that is the factory hot rod class made him realize very quickly that NHRA drag racing is serious business.

“It had been a dream of our family for a long time to come to the United States and race against the best drivers in the world,” said Tucker, an accomplished driver in Australia. “A few years ago we thought it was going to happen but nothing came to fruition, which turned out to be OK because there was still a little bit of unfinished business back home with our ANDRA efforts.

“In the end we made it here, and we’re glad we did. Drag racing is such a big production in the U.S. In Australia, we had maybe 10,000 people in the stands at tracks much smaller than these NHRA facilities. Coming here and racing at places like Charlotte or Vegas, it’s clear how important fans are to this sport and to attracting sponsors. It makes us glad to be a part of something so unique yet so competitive.”

Rare mistake ruins Tucker’s chances at FallNationals

“I guess it’s racing and stuff happens,” Tucker said. “It’s disappointing, but there’s always another drag race. I’ve got air in my lungs and my family loves me, so it can’t be all bad.”

Tucker qualified No. 10 for Dallas and was looking for continued improvement from his Camaro in eliminations after making gains in qualifying. He was also looking for improvement from himself.

Aussie Tucker has Auzmet Camaro primed for success in Texas eliminations

DALLAS, TX – Shane Tucker has a unique plan to make his Auzmet Architectural Camaro a player in Sunday’s elimination rounds at the 29th Shane Tuckerannual AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals.

“We ran a bigger set of tires today,” Tucker said. “Most of the teams run a smaller tire through qualifying because they’re a little bit quicker and help you put a better elapsed time on the scoreboards, but we made the call to run a big-tire setup because that’s what we’re going to be running tomorrow.

“Sure, we might have given up a little bit in the qualifying order, but as far as the setup for Sunday, I think we’re in a good position. I’m thinking we’ve put ourselves in a good position to race well in this heat and humidity.”

No. 14 qualifier Shane Tucker and his Auzmet Chevrolet Camaro were slated to face off against No. 3 Dave Connolly in Charlotte; however, due to the rescheduling the match will occur when Pro Stock eliminations take place in Texas.

“Going up there we knew the starting line was really good,” Tucker said. “Knowing that, we made some changes in the staging lanes. We moved some weight around on the rear of the car to compensate for the really good starting line. We did that because we figured we probably miscalculated the transmission ratios. In saying that, we moved the weight because downtracking makes this thing really loose.”

Tucker keen on harnessing horsepower of Auzmet Architectural Camaro

CHARLOTTE, NC – Pro Stock star Shane Tucker knows he has the horsepower to run against the best teams on the NHRA circuit, and the pride Shane Tuckerof Australia’s Gold Coast hopes to prove that fact on the dragstrip this weekend when he unleashes his Auzmet Architectural Camaro at the seventh annual NHRA Carolina Nationals.

“In Pro Stock, horsepower always shows up in your top speed,” Tucker said. “Two weeks ago in Indy, we had the second-fastest car in the first round of eliminations. The only person faster than us was the guy we were racing.

“This is a great problem to have, actually, because most of the time teams are trying to find horsepower. We’ve already got a great powerplant from Elite Performance and that showed on the scoreboards. Now we need to adjust the car properly to fully utilize the horsepower these motors are making.”
