Keith Haney Racing Qualifies for Fastest Field in MWDRS History, Exits Early Due to Parts Failure
Martin, MI – The inaugural Shakedown at M-Town lived up to its name, delivering the fastest Pro Mod field in the history of the Mid-West
Drag Racing Series, and among them was Keith Haney Racing.
Teams faced a unique challenge throughout the weekend, adjusting to an unfamiliar track surface due to the combination of radial and slick-tire cars competing at the same event. Despite the tricky conditions, Haney posted a strong 3.637 at 206.71 mph during qualifying, securing the No. 13 spot and setting up a first-round matchup with eventual event winner Jeff Rudolf.
Haney was sharp off the line, grabbing the early lead with a stellar .013 reaction time to Rudolf’s .036. He held the advantage until around the 330-foot mark, when disaster struck, the crank trigger failed, triggering a massive nitrous backfire and abruptly ending Haney’s weekend.
Undeterred, the team tore down the engine, made the necessary repairs, and will be ready for the next MWDRS stop at Flying H Drag Strip in Odessa, Missouri, for the Summer Smackdown, June 27–28.
Musi Racing Returns to Pro Mod Action at Shakedown Nationals
DINWIDDIE, VA — For the first time in three months, the Frank Brandao-owned Edelbrock/Lucas Oil “King Kong 7” 2018 Dodge Dart will
be in action and the Musi Racing team couldn’t be happier.
Lizzy Musi will return behind the wheel of the record-breaking nitrous-assisted car for this weekend’s Shakedown Nationals XVIII at Virginia Motorsports Park, marking the car’s first on-track appearance since the PDRA Carolina Showdown at Darlington Dragway in mid-June.
A hectic summer schedule of filming for the Street Outlaws TV series on Discovery has kept the Musi Racing team busy, but the team has shifted its focus for this weekend and has big plans in the Pro Mod class.
“Lizzy’s excited, the whole team is excited and Frank is excited to see his car run,” Pat Musi said. “We know the car is fast and we feel good about going there. These cars are so on edge, but I think we’ve got something up our sleeve.”
Musi kept the exact details close to the vest, but the end goal — if the conditions present themselves — is to be the first big-tire nitrous Pro Mod to run in the 3.50s in the eighth-mile.
Pro Mod vs. RVW ‘Judgement Day’ Added to Comp Cams Shakedown Nationals XVII
DINWIDDIE, VA – The heated debate between Pro Mod racers and Radial vs. the World (RVW) competitors will be
settled during the Comp Cams Shakedown Nationals XVII, Sept. 19-21 at Virginia Motorsports Park. Race officials announced today a special Pro Mod vs. RVW Judgement Day shootout that will pit the eight best big-tire Pro Mods and eight best small-tire RVW cars in a best-5-of-8 showdown on Friday night.
The Pro Mod vs. RVW Judgement Day shootout will be presented by G Force Race Cars, Resolution Racing Services, MSR Performance, Flying A Motorsports and Pilot Electric Co. Inc.
“A couple months ago the internet started buzzing about how close the two classes are in ET and how cool it would be to see them side by side at a standalone event,” said Tyler Crossnoe, vice president of racing operations, Virginia Motorsports Park. “With Shakedown having both classes on the property with the right rules in place, it just made sense to do this one-off shootout under the lights.”
Salemi & Team Victorious at The Shakedown at The Summit
The Shakedown at the Summit has been one of Melanie Salemi’s favorite races ever since she made her first ¼ mile
pro mod blast down Summit Motorsports Park’s surface in 2015. Although she had made many ¼ mile runs in her dragster over the years, being in her pro mod was a new learning experience. Going 5.88 at 239 on her first full lap was something she had only dreamed of.
Fast forward to 2016 when Melanie saw herself in the final of the first $40k Shakedown at the Summit. Her and her team were quite confident they had what it was going to take, to take the win as Melanie had made consistent 5.80 passes throughout eliminations. That was quickly halted as Kevin Fiscus motored on down the track for the win in the final as Melanie struggled to get off the starting line. Ever since that day Melanie and her team has been determined to go back to the shakedown to redeem themselves.
2017 Melanie qualified #1 with a 5.71 @ 250 and saw herself out in the semi final after a red light start.
In drag racing we always say there are so many ways to loose, and only one way to win. With a little luck on Salemi’s side this weekend her team was able to conquer their goal of finally winning the Shakedown at the Summit.
