Roy Hill’s Drag Racing School Hosts Coca-Cola at zMax Dragway

CONCORD, NC – When Robert Chambless, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Coca-Cola Bottling 
Company Consolidated, was looking for a way to bring his sales team together in a fun and energizing way, a day of learning the ropes of drag racing at Roy Hill’s Drag Racing School fit the bill perfectly.
On Wednesday, May 4th, Chambless and his team met at zMax Dragway just outside of Charlotte, NC, where they rode in the Roy Hill’s Drag School two and three-seater dragsters, watched a match race between Chambless and Hill in the school’s Super Comp dragsters, then took to the wheel themselves in six Roy Hill 2010 Mustangs for a full-on eliminations race between the entire team.
Custer Qualifies on Pole, Hill Advances to Semifinals in Houston

SOPHIA, NC – In his first race in the Roy Hill / Phoenix Racing Super Stock Ford Cobra Jet owned by James Finch, hometown racer Dewayne Custer was the number one qualifier at the recently-completed 24th annual O’Reilly Auto
Parts Spring Nationals held at Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, TX, with an 8.615 on a 9.70 index. After taking the top-qualifier bye run in the first round, Custer’s day came to an early end at the hands of Bill Devine in round two.
Drag racing icon Roy Hill qualified his Coca-Cola, Alsco, and Baytown Ford-sponsored Cobra Jet ninth, posting a best elapsed time of 8.870 seconds on the same 9.70 index. Hill advanced past Harvey Emmons III with a .002 reaction time in round one, defeated Kevin Helms in round two, and trailered Jerry Emmons in the third round before falling to eventual winner Larry Stewart in the semifinals. This marked the second race in a row Hill has lost to the eventual race winner.

Two Roy Hill / Phoenix Racing Super Stock Ford Cobra Jets owned by James Finch will hit Royal Purple Raceway this weekend; Hill will pilot the solid red Coca-Cola / Alsco entry he debuted in Charlotte, while Baytown native and longtime sportsman racer Dewayne Custer will drive the red, white, and blue Cobra Jet that carried Hill to the US Nationals winner’s circle last year.
The 36-year-old Custer is the shop foreman at Lastor Race Cars and has a lifetime of chassis building, tuning, and sportsman racing under his belt. He’s currently in the process of building a Super Stock Cobra Jet for Paul Candies, which sparked the multi-faceted partnership between Hill and Custer.
