Drag race series to participate at upcoming Canadian Motorsports Expo

TORONTO, ON – Several types of drag racing will be on display this weekend (February 7-9) at the eighth annual Canadian Canadian_ExpoMotorsports Expo, Canada’s largest venue related to motorsports.

Several teams that compete in the popular Quick 32 Sportsman Series and the Pro Bike and Sled Series will be on hand at the CME with their race vehicles.

The Quick 32 Sportsman Series, presented by NAPA Auto Parts, will be represented by both the Top Dragster and Top Sportsman classes that comprise the series. From Buffalo, New York, Dan Flanigan will display his Top Sportsman 2013 Chevy Camaro. The NOCO Energy Corporation Camaro features a 680-cubic inch nitrous-injected engine underneath the swoopy G-Force Race Cars product.

Three Drag Racing Series announces their 2014 schedules

CAYUGA, ON – Racing dates for the upcoming season have been announced for the Pro Modified Racing Association (PMRA), the PMRA-10th-logo-500pxQuick 32 Sportsman Series, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series (PBSS).

Started in 2005, the PMRA has grown into one of the strongest Pro Modified series in this popular class, presenting a solid contingent of teams at some of the best facilities in Eastern Canada and the United States. The PMRA has become a major player in the Pro Modified ranks, and has produced some of the best racing of this nature in North America with top cars and drivers doing battle on drag strips in Ontario, Michigan, and Maryland.

Along with its annual regular championship, the PMRA has provided fans with performances at major national drag racing venues, and last year at a special Pro Mod shoot-out in Maryland, took both first and second spots against some of the best teams in the Pro Modified world.

Night of Champions PMRA, PBSS and Quick 32 series pays honor to the teams of the 2013 racing season

BURLINGTON, ON – The annual Night of Champions was recently held for the Pro Modified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Rocky De Lecce - 2013 PMRA ChampionSportsman Series, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series.

This is the season-ending event for all three drag race series, and honors the teams for their efforts throughout the racing season.

For 2013, the banquet was held at the Holiday Inn Burlington Hotel and Conference Center in Burlington, Ontario, and hosted by Bill Mehlenbacher.

With the three vehicles of each series champion on display, the top five teams from each series were presented with their awards.

The Quick 32 Countdown to the 2013 Championship – Team Wilson & Gray – Champion

CAYUGA, ON – The Top Sportsman team of Wilson & Gray had a great season in Quick 32 Sportsman Series competition for 2013, Wilson-Graywinning its first championship in the popular drag racing series.

Wilson-Gray1Our season went great, said Bill Wilson, who is teamed with Rob Gray as co-owners, drivers, and crew chiefs. Everything went better than expected.

This season was the fifth for the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, which is presented by NAPA Auto Parts and competes at tracks in Ontario and Michigan.

The Quick 32 Sportsman Series Countdown to the 2013 Championship – Kevin Wicke – Second Place

CAYUGA, ON – Two-time Quick 32 Sportsman Series champion Kevin Wicke came close to winning his third series title, but had to Kevin Wickesettle for second spot in the Championship Point Award Series in 2013.

The series, presented by NAPA Auto Parts, has now completed its fifth year of racing.

Always a strong competitor in the Top Sportsman ranks with K&K Racing / CVR Dodge Stratus, Wicke started off the season well with a Top Sportsman win in the series opener at Martin Michigan after qualifying number one, but lost the event final to Top Dragster racing Sam Christian of Amherst, New York.

The Quick 32 Series Countdown to the 2013 Championship – Spencer Hyde – Third Place

CAYUGA, ON – Driving the Hyde Racing Team 1968 Camaro Top Sportsman entry, Stratford, Ontario’s Spencer Hyde took third place Spencer Hydein this year’s Quick 32 Sportsman Series point award championship.

Now in its fifth year of operation, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series is sponsored by NAPA Auto Parts.

Hyde started his season well with a runner-up finish in the Top Sportsman ranks to former champion Kevin Wicke, also of Stratford, during the opening round at Martin, Michigan.

And for the second event, held at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park, Hyde qualified fifth and took his Camaro to the winner’s circle, winning the Top Sportsman side of the race over Steve Corriveau of Fonthill, Ontario. Then he was matched up to Top Dragster driver Bill White of Gadshill, Ontario, but lost to White in the event final which pits the Top Sportsman eliminator against the Top Dragster eliminator for the event title.

Quick 32 Series 2013 Countdown to the Championship – Melanie Simmons Salemi – Fourth Place

CAYUGA, ON – A strong competitor with her Top Dragster entry, Melanie Simmons Salemi enjoyed a good 2013 season in the Quick 32 Melanie Simmons SalemiSportsman Series.

Melanie Simmons Salemi-1Driving her Toyrific Racing Team Mike Bos dragster, Simmons Salemi qualified for all six events this year in the fifth year of the series, presented once again by NAPA Auto Parts.

Qualifying fourth for the season opener in Martin, Michigan, Simmons Salemi was eliminated in the first round, and after qualifying eighth for the next race, on the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park, she made it to the semi-final.

But in the fourth race, after qualifying fourth, Simmons Salemi went all the way in the event, winning the Top Dragster eliminations as well as taking the event title over Top Sportsman winner Kevin Wicke of Stratford, Ontario.

The Quick 32 Countdown to the 2013 Championship – Top Dragster driver Jeff Moser – Fifth Place

CAYUGA, ON – Driving the MoBoyz Racing Top Dragster entry, Jeff Moser finished fifth this year in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series.

Jeff MoserJeff Moser1This popular drag racing series, presented by NAPA Auto Parts, has completed its fifth season of operation, and is comprised of Top Dragster and Top Sportsman cars using a Sportsman (full tree) timing system.

Moser, from Waterloo, Ontario, started racing in 1996, joined the Quick 32 Sportsman Series in 2011 and has finished in the top five every year since then with his Top Dragster. Moser pilots a 2011 Phantom Race Cars product with a 632-cubic inch Scott Shafiroff Racing Engines as power, hooked to a Hutch’s Transmission Service Powerglide transmission. The car’s fuel system is Holley, and the nitrous system is a Speedtech Fogger unit. The car’s performance throughout the season would be in the mid-six second range at speeds of just over 200 mph.

Simmons Salemi Chalks up Her Most Successful Season to Date

Orillia, ON – Melanie Simmons Salemi piloting her Toyrific Racing Top Dragster had a great 2013 season competing in the NAPA Quick Simmons Salemi - Bryan Epps32 Sportsman Series. Simmons Salemi finished fourth place overall in Q32 Points and first place in her respective Top Dragster class. Melanie racked up an event win at the Canadian Nitro Nationals in July and had solid performances at all of the NAPA Quick 32 series events. She lowered her personal best performance to a 6.50 Seconds at 206 mph and qualified in the top 6 at all attended events.

Melanie stated, I could not have had a year like this without all of my great sponsors. They are the reason my Toyrific Racing team and I can travel and compete in such a competitive arena. The largest thanks go out to my father and crew chief Roger Simmons. His love for this sport is reason I am wrapped up in it and also to my step Mom Sue. She looks after all of us at the track like none other.

Simmons Salemi’s husband, Jon Salemi owner of Resolution Racing Services alleged, Melanie developed as a driver this season without a doubt. She was very consistent on the tree and drove the stripe very well. She picked up when the car wasn’t perfect to get this team the wins we needed. The Toyrific team made a total of 84 runs in 2013 making it to the finishline on all but one attempt.
