PMRA AND NEOPMA RENEW RACING PARTNERSHIP AT EMPIRE DRAGWAY FOR 2023

Marks the return of the Quick 32 Sportsman Series and Pro Bike & Sled Series (PBSS)

CAYUGA, ON – The self-governing organizations of the Northeast Outlaw Pro Mod Association (NEOPMA) and the Pro Modified Racing Association (PMRA), are excited to announce the renewal of their partnership for the Northeast Outlaw Pro Mod Challenge events at Empire Dragway, in Leicester, NY, for 2023.

“We really enjoy working with John Mazzorana of the NEOPMA and Jerry Scaccia at Empire Dragway and their respective teams. So much so, that this year will mark the return of the Quick 32 Sportsman Series and the Pro Bike & Sled Series (PBSS)” said Bruce Mehlenbacher, Director of Operations for the PMRA.

“We believe the alliance between the NEOPMA and PMRA will result in making the Northeast Pro Mod Challenge at Empire Dragway one of the largest events in the country, with some of fastest Pro Modified fields in northeast” stated John Mazzorana of the NEOPMA.  “We hope to have over 30 cars attending, breaking track records and giving fans one of the best shows ever. Empire Dragway is one of the best tracks in North America and, combined with our two associations, it is the perfect formula for an amazing race.”

“It is our intent to assist the events with marketing and public relations, through PMRA on both sides of the border.  This should result in sponsor support for the series, the track and our teams, as well as increased spectator and racer attendance,” Mehlenbacher said.

Canada’s Scott Wildgust Victorious at Empire Northeast Outlaw Pro Mod Challenge III

LEICESTER, NY – In a side-by-side final round, Scott Wildgust nosed out Northeast Outlaw Pro Mod Association (NEOPMA) veteran Kevin McCurdy to pick up his first-ever NEOPMA win at the Empire Northeast Outlaw Pro Mod Challenge III Saturday night at Empire Dragway. Wildgust recorded a 3.705-second pass at 204.82 MPH in his screw-blown Smokie’s Garage ’67 Mustang to beat McCurdy’s 3.71 at 201.70 for a .006 margin of victory.

“That was probably one of the closest rounds I’ve been on the winning side of in a long time,” said Wildgust, who was making his NEOPMA debut at the series’ fifth race of its 30th anniversary season. “We both had killer lights. Just nipped him in the lights. It was tough to see at night when the win light came on. It was definitely a close race, that’s for sure.”

The Empire Dragway event was somewhat of a home race for Wildgust, who lives across the border in Stratford, Ontario, Canada. Wildgust’s Mark Savage-tuned ’67 Mustang steadily improved through qualifying, ending up with a 3.7323 at 203.62 to edge out Mike “Hollywood” Decker III’s 3.7328 for the No. 4 spot.

PMRA, Quick 32 and PBSS Ceases Operation

Since our first race in 2005, the PMRA has produced ten champions. In six years of racing, there have been five PMRAdifferent Quick 32 Sportsman Series champions, and in its four years of existence, there have been four PBSS champions.

In the past eleven years of operation, the three series have awarded over $1,250,000.00 to our drag racing competitors.

Since our first gathering in December of 2004, when we were asked to organize and promote a group of Pro Modified Teams, and seven years ago when the same request was made by a group of Top Dragster and Top Sportsman Teams, the series has always strived to make each season a pleasurable experience for all concerned including our loyal fans. The same attitude applies with the Pro Bike & Sled Series, which began in 2011 and has been presented by Wiseco Performance Products since that time.
