Perkinson, Steding, Morton, Lannigan, Gast and Agostino Low Qualifiers at PDRA North vs. South Shootout

BUDDS CREEK, MD – Longtime doorslammer wheelman Buddy Perkinson ended Friday qualifying as the No. 1 qualifier in two different classes at the Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) North vs. South Shootout presented by Line-X and Iron Man Quick Connect Push Bar at Maryland International Raceway. Perkinson earned his first No. 1 qualifier award in Switzer Dynamics Pro Nitrous as the fill-in driver for two-time world champion Tommy Franklin, and he’s the provisional low qualifier in MagnaFuel Elite Top Sportsman presented by US Rail.

The No. 1 spots in the rest of the PDRA’s professional classes went to Kurt Steding (WS Construction Pro Boost presented by P2 Contracting and Ty-Drive), Elijah Morton (Liberty’s Gears Extreme Pro Stock presented by AED Competition), Walter Lannigan Jr. ($hameless Racing Pro 632), Paul Gast (Drag 965 Pro Nitrous Motorcycle), and Nick Agostino (Menscer Motorsports Pro Street presented by AFCO).

In the debut of the PDRA’s new small-tire class, AFCO Super Street presented by Menscer Motorsports, Maryland’s own Wes Ervin is the No. 1 qualifier.

PDRA Hitting Halfway Point of 2022 Season at North vs. South Shootout in Maryland

BUDDS CREEK, MD – The competition is heating up as the Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) rolls into the halfway point in its eight-race 2022 season this weekend at the North vs. South Shootout presented by Line-X and Iron Man Quick Connect Push Bar, June 23-25 at Maryland International Raceway. World championship contenders are emerging, while the series’ new small-tire class will make its debut.

“The Maryland fans have always been very supportive of us over the years, and we have an incredible show lined up for them this weekend,” said Tyler Crossnoe, race director, PDRA. “Competition is at an all-time high across the board in our professional and sportsman classes. Plus, we’re debuting our newest class, AFCO Super Street presented by Menscer Motorsports. Fans of all kinds of different classes will find something for them at this event.”

Just one point separates Switzer Dynamics Pro Nitrous points leader Tommy Franklin and three-time and defending world champion Jim Halsey after the first three races. Franklin, a two-time world champion, won the most recent race on tour. Halsey, a Maryland native, is the defending event champion. “Mountain Man” Mike Achenbach, who won the season opener, is also in the hunt less than 20 points behind Franklin and Halsey.

Tommy, Amber Franklin Score First Father-Daughter Double-Up; Camp, Carr, Gast and Riddle Also Win Big at PDRA American Doorslammer Challenge

NORWALK, OH – Past Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) world champions Tommy and Amber Franklin made series history Saturday night when they became the first father-daughter duo to win the same event. Racing at the DeCerbo Construction American Doorslammer Challenge presented by Callies at Summit Motorsports Park, Tommy won in Switzer Dynamics Pro Nitrous and Amber won in $hameless Racing Pro 632.

The other pro class victories went to Johnny Camp in WS Construction Pro Boost presented by P2 Contracting and Ty-Drive, JR Carr in Liberty’s Gears Extreme Pro Stock presented by AED Competition, Paul Gast in Drag 965 Pro Nitrous Motorcycle, and Bill Riddle in Menscer Motorsports Pro Street presented by AFCO.

Sportsman class wins were claimed by Donny Urban in MagnaFuel Elite Top Sportsman presented by US Rail, Larry Roberts in Lucas Oil Elite Top Dragster presented by Laris Motorsports Insurance, Ray Bamond in MagnaFuel Top Sportsman 32 presented by Vortech, and Frank Falter IV in Lucas Oil Top Dragster 32 presented by Laris Motorsports Insurance. In the Edelbrock Bracket Bash presented by COMP Cams final round, Mike Carroll used a .001 reaction time and a 4.881 on a 4.87 dial-in in his ’22 American dragster to beat Chris Schneider’s 4.718 on a 4.71 dial-in.

Franklin, Tutterow, Gillig, Lannigan, Garner-Jones and Essick Lead Rain-Shortened Friday Qualifying at PDRA American Doorslammer Challenge

NORWALK, OH – Two-time Switzer Dynamics Pro Nitrous world champion Tommy Franklin earned the No. 1 qualifying spot for the second race in a row at the Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) DeCerbo Construction American Doorslammer Challenge presented by Callies. Franklin’s 3.686-second pass at 204.98 mph was the quickest after two Friday sessions in Pro Nitrous, the only class that completed a second session before rain showers paused the Summit Motorsports Park event. All other classes will compete their second qualifying session Saturday morning.

The provisional low qualifiers in the other pro classes are Todd Tutterow in WS Construction Pro Boost presented by P2 Contracting and Ty-Drive, Tony Gillig in Liberty’s Gears Extreme Pro Stock presented by AED Competition, Walt Lannigan Jr. in $hameless Racing Pro 632, Chris Garner-Jones in Drag 965 Pro Nitrous Motorcycle, and Tim Essick in Menscer Motorsports Pro Street presented by AFCO.

In the sportsman classes, the provisional No. 1 qualifiers are Donny Urban in MagnaFuel Elite Top Sportsman presented by US Rail, Craig Addis in Lucas Oil Elite Top Dragster presented by Laris Motorsports Insurance, Steve Drongowski in MagnaFuel Top Sportsman 32 presented by Vortech, and Bryan Keller in Lucas Oil Top Dragster presented by Laris Motorsports Insurance.

PDRA Stars Returning to Norwalk for American Doorslammer Challenge

NORWALK, OH – After making its long-awaited debut at Summit Motorsports Park in 2021, the Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) returns to the popular northern Ohio track this weekend, May 26-28, for the DeCerbo Construction American Doorslammer Challenge presented by Callies Performance. A full lineup of professional and sportsman classes is on tap for the all-eighth-mile series’ third of eight championship points races.

“Everyone at the PDRA is looking forward to racing at Norwalk again this weekend,” said Tyler Crossnoe, race director, PDRA. “Despite challenging weather here last year, we had a successful debut at ‘America’s Racetrack’ and we’re eager to build on that this time around. The Bader family always provides a great racetrack and a fantastic experience for racers and fans. It’s going to be a big weekend of racing as we get closer to locking in the fields for our Summit Racing Equipment PDRA ProStars race in July.”

The headlining stars of the show will be the PDRA’s two quickest and fastest eliminators, Switzer Dynamics Pro Nitrous and WS Construction Pro Boost presented by P2 Contracting and Ty-Drive. Pennsylvania’s “Mountain Man” Mike Achenbach has a commanding points lead in Pro Nitrous with a win and a runner-up finish, though three-time and defending world champion Jim Halsey and class veterans Jay Cox, Tommy Franklin, and Jason Harris are chasing him down. In Pro Boost, Todd “King Tut” Tutterow is the clear leader with back-to-back wins to start the year.

Halsey, Tutterow, Pluchino and A. Franklin Race to Victory at PDRA Doorslammer Derby

BOWLING GREEN, KY – After an uncharacteristic first-round exit at the Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) season opener in early April, three-time and defending Switzer Dynamics Pro Nitrous world champion Jim Halsey returned to the winner’s circle Saturday night at the PDRA Vortech Superchargers Doorslammer Derby presented by Stroud Safety at Beech Bend Raceway Park. Halsey defeated Mike Achenbach in the final round, denying Achenbach a second consecutive event win.

Todd “King Tut” Tutterow scored a second consecutive win in WS Construction Pro Boost presented by P2 Contracting and Ty-Drive, Johnny Pluchino notched a win in Liberty’s Gears Extreme Pro Stock presented by AED Competition, and second-generation PDRA star Amber Franklin earned her first $hameless Racing Pro 632 victory.

The Doorslammer Derby sportsman victories went to Chris Nyerges in MagnaFuel Elite Top Sportsman presented by US Rail, Kyle Harris in Lucas Oil Elite Top Dragster presented by Laris Motorsports Insurance, Joe Roubicek in MagnaFuel Top Sportsman 32, and Nick Isenhower in Lucas Oil Top Dragster 32 presented by Laris Motorsports Insurance.

Gallegos, Franklin, Carr and Lannigan Earn No. 1 Qualifying Spots at PDRA Doorslammer Derby

BOWLING GREEN, KY – For the first time in his young Pro Mod racing career, Robert Gallegos will race from the No. 1 spot in WS Construction Pro Boost presented by P2 Contracting and Ty-Drive at the Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) Vortech Superchargers Doorslammer Derby presented by Stroud Safety. Gallegos made a 3.655-second pass at 205.94 mph Friday night at Beech Bend Raceway Park to jump to the top of the Pro Boost qualifying order.

Along with Gallegos, the No. 1 qualifiers were Tommy Franklin in Switzer Dynamics Pro Nitrous, JR Carr in Liberty’s Gears Extreme Pro Stock presented by AED Competition, and Walt Lannigan Jr. in $hameless Racing Pro 632.

PDRA Bringing Serious Horsepower to Kentucky for Doorslammer Derby

BOWLING GREEN, KY – A week before Kentucky’s most famous horse race takes place, the Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) is bringing a different level of horsepower to the Bluegrass State for the second annual Vortech Superchargers Doorslammer Derby presented by Stroud Safety. Set for April 28-30 at Beech Bend Raceway Park, the Doorslammer Derby is the second of eight races on the 2022 PDRA world championship tour.

“The Doorslammer Derby was an awesome addition to our schedule last year, and we’re thrilled to return to Beech Bend again this weekend,” said Tyler Crossnoe, race director, PDRA. “It’s as far west as we’ll race this year, so we’re expecting a lot of racers that we don’t typically see. We encourage all of the local fans and racers alike to come out and experience a PDRA race, whether it’s their first time or they liked what they saw when we were here last year.”

The Doorslammer Derby will feature the PDRA’s two quickest and fastest classes, WS Construction Pro Boost presented by P2 Contracting and Ty-Drive and Switzer Dynamics Pro Nitrous. In Pro Boost, Todd “King Tut” Tutterow is both the defending event winner and the most recent winner on tour. Jay Cox, the defending event winner in Pro Nitrous, also reached the final round at the PDRA East Coast Nationals earlier this month.

Achenbach, Tutterow, Powers, Drinkwater, Garner-Jones and Essick Victorious at Season-Opening PDRA East Coast Nationals

BENSON, NC – In a Switzer Dynamics Pro Nitrous field full of past world champions and veterans, relative newcomer “Mountain Man” Mike Achenbach scored his second career win Saturday night at the Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) East Coast Nationals presented by FuelTech at GALOT Motorsports Park. Achenbach used a 3.668-second pass at 206.80 mph in his Buck-powered “Deep Purple” ’69 Camaro to defeat Jay Cox in the final round.

Achenbach was joined in the winner’s circle by pro winners Todd Tutterow in WS Construction Pro Boost presented by P2 Contracting and Ty-Drive, Chris Powers in Liberty’s Gears Extreme Pro Stock presented by AED Competition, Alan Drinkwater in $hameless Racing Pro 632, Chris Garner-Jones in Drag 965 Pro Nitrous Motorcycle, and Tim Essick in Menscer Motorsports Pro Street presented by AFCO.

The PDRA also crowned winners in the sportsman classes, including Steve Drongowski in MagnaFuel Elite Top Sportsman presented by US Rail, Steve Furr in Lucas Oil Elite Top Dragster presented by Laris Motorsports Insurance, Doug Crumlich in MagnaFuel Top Sportsman 32 presented by Vortech Superchargers, and Tisha Wilson in Lucas Oil Top Dragster 48 presented by Laris Motorsports Insurance. Nathan Tanner scored the win in Edelbrock Bracket Bash presented by COMP Cams, using a .002 reaction time and a 6.885 on a 6.88 dial-in in his ’67 Nova to defeat Cody Strickland in the final round.
