DOUG KALITTA’S TOP FUEL CHAMPIONSHIP RUN FUELED BY RED-HOT SECOND HALF OF 2025 SEASON

INDIANAPOLIS – For Doug Kalitta, this year’s fall visit to In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip for the In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals marked a far different feel. There were no tense moments, no chance at heartbreak and not even a need for a thrilling winner-take-all finish.

Instead, the championship came on Saturday, summarizing an incredible jaunt through the Countdown to the Championship playoffs. After years of second-place finishes and near-misses, Kalitta won the Top Fuel championship for the second time in three years, continuing a brilliant run with crew chief Alan Johnson.

He matched his cousin Scott’s two world championships and added another impressive notch in the Kalitta family legacy. Doing it without any sort of championship drama in Pomona also made it just a bit sweeter as well.

Kalitta advanced to the final round at the first four playoff races, winning twice and showcasing consistency that none of his counterparts could match in the second half of the season. Kalitta and his team simply got better as the 2025 NHRA Mission Drag Racing Series rolled on, winning four times, advancing to seven final rounds and claiming yet another world title in his 12,000-horsepower Mac Tools dragster for Kalitta Motorsports. FUNNY CAR’S SPENCER HYDE NAMED 2025 NHRA ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

TEMECULA, CA – After a successful debut season in the highly competitive Funny Car class, Spencer Hyde has been named the 2025 NHRA Rookie of the Year in the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series.

Hyde was awarded Rookie of the Year honors on Monday at the NHRA Awards Ceremony at the Pechanga Resort Casino. He was part of a standout field of 2025 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series rookies, including Hunter Green, also in Funny Car; Pro Stock’s Stephen Bell, Cody Coughlin, Matt Latino and Chris Vang; and Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Brayden Davis.

Throughout his 2025 rookie campaign, Hyde attended every national event. He won the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge in Las Vegas in the spring as well and collected the No. 1 qualifier position in Reading. Hyde appeared in two final rounds this season in Epping and in Sonoma, closing out an impressive season in Funny Car.

“It’s a huge feather in my cap to come out here as a nobody and do well,” said Hyde. “We’re at a 50 percent win-loss ratio, which is pretty tough to do your first year out here. You’ve got a guy like Tony Stewart who won it last year. Other big names in our sport like Del Worsham, who was Rookie of the Year in 1991, who I just raced in Las Vegas. To be added to this list is a huge honor. I hope to be another Rookie of the Year who goes on to win big races and championships.” Continue reading

POMONA, CA – NHRA officials have made the unfortunate decision on Sunday to cancel this weekend’s In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip due to persistent and adverse weather and unsafe track conditions.

TOP FUEL’S DOUG KALITTA CLAIMS SECOND TITLE ON SATURDAY IN-N-OUT BURGER NHRA FINALS

POMONA, CA – For the second time in three years, Doug Kalitta is a world champion, as the veteran officially clinched the 2025 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series Top Fuel world championship on Saturday at the In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip.

Kalitta locked up the title when qualifying was canceled on Saturday due to weather. It marked a far different feel than Kalitta’s first championship, which went down to a winner-take-all final round at Pomona in 2023.

This time, Kalitta’s dominance in the Countdown to the Championship playoffs ensured that a pressure-packed situation wouldn’t be necessary. He reached the final round of the first four playoff races, winning in St. Louis and Dallas to take control in his 12,000-horsepower Mac Tools dragster.

That led to the championship being clinched on Saturday, as Kalitta celebrated with his team before the first round of eliminations even started. Continue reading
