CALLAWAY SCORES FIRST WIN IN TEXAS

BAYTOWN, TX – The NHRA Spring Nationals at Royal Purple Raceway, saw local racer Lee Callaway upset 2015 LODRSnational champion Joey Severance for his first career win in Top Alcohol Dragster. Despite this being his first-ever final round appearance in the racing class, the Baytown, Texas, resident showed no signs of nervousness as he made his best pass of the weekend.

Callaway opened the final round with a small lead after posting a quicker reaction time, then pulled away to earn the Wally after Severance started hazing the tires at approximately 400 feet. Final round results were a 5.285 second, 271.84 mph pass for Callaway, compared to Severance’s 6.610 second, 141.46 mph finish.

IDAHO RACERS SCORE AT FIREBIRD; TWO IN A ROW FOR KRABILL

BOISE, ID – Ken Nelson and Terry Anderson scored for the home state at the Napa Auto Parts Ignitor NHRA Lucas NHRA Div 6Oil Drag Racing Series at Firebird Raceway in Boise, Idaho, while Kris Krabill grabbed his second win in as many racers in the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series Nostalgia Funny Car category.

Nelson, Hayden Lake, Idaho, laid down a 6.977 second lap at 189.98 mph in his 2015 dragster to defeat Tony Burton, Lacey, Wash., clocking in at 7.341, 182.50 in the Rig Rentals Top Dragster final round. Anderson, out of Meridian, Idaho, drove his ’67 Nova to a 10.280 mph pass in knocking out Sean Cour, Brush Prairie, Wash., and his ’06 Cobalt in the Super Stock class.

Krabill, Bellevue, Wash., faced off with Dan Horan Jr., Sylmar, Calif., in Nostalgia Funny Car pitting the two fastest cars on property in a head to head battle. Krabill came into the event having won the Heritage Series season opener March Meet at Auto Club Famoso Raceway, and picked up where he left off qualifying on top of the field and clocking in at 5.697 second, 245.27 mph for the win over Horan to take home the trophy.

SCHEDULE CHANGE FOR LUCAS OIL SERIES AT VIRGINIA MOTORSPORTS PARK

PETERSBURG, VA – Due to forecasted inclement weather on Sunday, Virginia Motorsports Park and NHRA NHRA Division 1Northeast division officials have made the decision to complete this weekend’s NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Power in the Park event on Saturday.

The schedule will call for three rounds of qualifying/time trials for all categories on Friday, April 29. The Top 8 races for Super Street, Stock, Super Comp, Super Stock and Super Gas are also scheduled for Friday if time permits. Any racers entering the event on Saturday will be placed on the bottom of the qualifying sheet provided fields are not full. (Top Dragster, Top Sportsman and Comp — 32 car fields) (Stock & SS — 128 car fields).

The event is one of 45 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s MXI/Magnaflux Top Dragster and Top Sportsman Series’ presented by Select Performance will run in conjunction with the event as will the NHRA Harley-Davidson Drag Racing Series featuring Pro Fuel Harley and Pro Stock Snowmobile.

NAPA AUTO PARTS IGNITOR RETURNS TO FIREBIRD RACEWAY

BOISE, ID – Firebird Raceway will host the NHRA Northwest Division for the 46th Annual NAPA Auto Parts Ignitor NHRA Div 6presented by Peterson Chevrolet Buick Cadillac on April 29 – May 1. The event is one of 45 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Additionally, the event will play host to the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series and the Nostalgia Nitro Funny Car class.

Headlining the Ignitor will be the return of AA/Nitro Funny Cars in the Stinker Stores Nitro Knockout. As the oldest drag racing event in the Pacific Northwest when Don “the Snake” Prudhomme won the inaugural event back to 1971, the Ignitor is the second stop in the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series. This year’s field includes the #1, #2, #3 and #5 ranked Funny Cars in the national standings, along with many of premiere teams in the west.

INDIANAPOLIS –The Spring Spectacle of Speed at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis starts the North Central NHRA Division 3Division April 29 – May 1. The event is one of 45 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s Brodix/Steve Schmidt Top Sportsman Series and Spitzer Race Cars Top Dragster Series will also run in conjunction with the event.

Gates at Lucas Oil Raceway open at 7 a.m. each day. Qualifying and time trials start at 9 a.m. Friday and continue Saturday at 8 a.m. Top Dragster, Comp Eliminator and Top Sportsman qualify Friday at 2:30 p.m. and Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny qualify at 4 p.m. on Friday and 1 and 5 p.m. on Saturday. Eliminations begin on Saturday at 2 p.m. and will continue Sunday at 8 a.m. with first round of eliminations for Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car at noon on Sunday.

FIRST TIME WINNERS DOMINATE AT TEXAS MOTORPLEX

ENNIS, TX – In the final results from Texas Motorplex and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, several racers NHRA Div 4 South Centraltook home their first divisional wins and local racers dominated in the winner’s circle overall.

Three Texan racers made their first appearance in the final round, and all three captured their first win. In the final round of Stock Eliminator, Bill Basham, Azle, Texas, defeated Keith Bakies of Alexandra, La; David Bills from Marion, Texas, collected the Wally trophy in Super Comp by taking out Tony Brown of Hallsville, Texas; and in Super Street Brandon Millican, Waxahachie, Texas, earned his first divisional title defeating Donna Watson, Forney, Texas.

Dick Maris, Montgomery, Texas, raced to the final round and earned his fourth divisional win. Maris in his Comp Eliminator ProStart with a run of 7.004 seconds at 191.00 mph ran down Clark Smiley, Denver City, Texas, who had the starting line advantage and made a runner up pass of 7.311 seconds at 188.81 mph.

MEYER, HOOL LEAD WINNERS IN CHARLOTTE

CHARLOTTE, NC – Megan Meyer and Kris Hool raced to victory at this weekend’s NHRA Four-Wide Nationals LODRSpresented by Lowes Foods. Meyer scored her first NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series national event win in Top Alcohol Dragster while Hool picked up his third in Top Alcohol Funny Car.

Meyer, out of Spring Hill, Kan., and running for her father and team owner Randy Meyer, advanced to her second final round in just her second start in the alcohol dragster class. The second generation driver recorded 5.20’s and 5.30’s throughout eliminations including a 5.325 second lap at 278.46 mph in the final against Josh Hart who suffered engine problems from the start and is still looking for his first national event win.

NHRA SOUTH CENTRAL DIVISION COMES TO TEXAS MOTORPLEX

ENNIS, TX – Texas Motorplex host the NHRA South Central Division on April 22-24. The event is one of 45 NHRA Div 4 South Centralscheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s Sunset Performance Top Sportsman Series, KPE Top Dragster Series and NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson will also be run in conjunction with the event.

Saturday’s action will be highlighted by the NHRA Moser Sportsman Shootout with racers from seven different classes battling it out for a posted purse of $15,000. Defending South Central Division Moser Sportsman Shootout Champion Slate Cummings has once again qualified for the 16-car field and is eager to defend his title. Former national champion Austin Williams is qualified in both Stock and Super Comp and is looking to dethrone Cummings.

TREADWELL, ANDERSON LEAD LUCAS OIL WINNERS

CHARLOTTE, NC – In the final results from zMAX Dragway and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Jenny LODRSTreadwell scored in Comp Eliminator and Jonathan Anderson bagged his third win of the year in Super Street.  Treadwell, Mont Plymouth, Fla., lined up against Randy Daniels, Grantsboro, N.C., and won it at the start with a .009 second reaction time to Daniels .180.  She then ran it out to an 8.290 second 157.69 mph lap.

Anderson, out of Griffin, Ga., won on a double breakout with Michelle Furr, Galax, Va., 10.895 to a 10.891 to collect his third win of the year having won the season opener in Gainesville, Fla., and the second half of the double-header in Atlanta two weeks ago.
