NHRA LUCAS OIL WINNERS CROWNED AT S.R.C.A. DRAGSTRIP
GREAT BEND, KS – Champions were recognized yesterday for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at S.R.C.A.
Dragstrip and the NHRA West Central Division that included Comp Eliminator, Super Stock and the rest of the classes that encompass the nationwide series.
Attendees at the S.R.C.A. Dragstrip witnessed Kansas native, Gary Stinnett of Emporia, Kan., capture wins in the Super Street and Super Street Shootout races. In Super Street, Stinnett ran 11.038 seconds 141.50 mph defeating local favorite Rachel Smith, Great Bend, Kan., 11.027 seconds, 134.08 mph. In the Super Street Shootout, Stinnett, ran 11.033, 146.97 defeating Sandy Cawsey, Regina, Sask.
In Comp Eliminator Don Thomas, Amarillo, Texas, ran 6.854, 182.35 defeating Matt Harris, Nebraska City, Neb., 7.936, 164.13. In another all Kansas affair, the Fineline Madcap Top Dragster, Matt Driskell, Wellsville, Kan., ran 6.447, 210.08 beating Mark Grame, Overland, Kan., 6.831, 189.76.
HOME STATE RACERS DOMINATE AT GALOT MOTORSPORTS PARK
BENSON, NC – The home state of North Carolina dominated the winner’s circle for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag
Racing Series at GALOT Motorsports Park this past weekend including Steve Furr who advanced to the final round in both Super Gas and Top Dragster looking for the event double up. This is the first time in several years, and the only time this year, that the Lucas Oil racers will compete on an eighth-mile track instead of a quarter-mile.
In Furr’s first final, the Harrisburg, N.C., racer met up with Corey Manuel in Super Gas and recorded a .005 second reaction time which proved to be the difference. Manuel, Winston-Salem, S.C., went 6.307 on the 6.30 index but could not catch Furr who recorded his 16th divisional win with a 6.326 second, 127.21 mph lap.
INAUGURAL VISIT FOR NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES AT GALOT MOTORSPORTS PARK

the first time on June 3-5. The event is one of 45 scheduled across the country where drivers earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s Davis Golf Carts Top Sportsman Series and Hickory Enclosed Trailer Sales Top Dragster Series will also be run in conjunction with the event.
Qualifying and time trials at GALOT Motorsports Park are at 9 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Top Dragster, Comp Eliminator and Top Sportsman qualify Friday at 3:30 p.m. and Saturday at 2 and 5 p.m. Eliminations begin on Saturday with round 1 of Top Dragster, Comp Eliminator and Top Sportsman at 7 p.m. Eliminations continue Sunday at 9 a.m. Round 2 of eliminations for Top Dragster, Comp Eliminator and Top Sportsman begin at 11 a.m. Additionally, there will be a bonus Gamblers race and Stock/Super Stock Combo race on both Friday and Saturday nights.

JOLIET, IL – The NHRA North Central Division at Route 66 Raceway on June 3-5 for the Burndown at Sundown.
The event is one of 45 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s Brodix/Steve Schmidt Top Sportsman Series and Spitzer Race Cars Top Dragster Series will also run in conjunction with the event.
Gates at Route 66 Raceway open at 7 a.m. each day. Qualifying and time trials start at 9 a.m. Friday and continue Saturday at 10 a.m. Top Dragster and Top Sportsman qualify Friday at 2:30 p.m. and Saturday at 2:30 and 7 p.m. Comp Eliminator qualify at 3:30 p.m. on Friday and noon and 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car qualify Friday at 4:30 p.m. and Saturday at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. The Burndown at Sundown, which features Jets Cars and exhibitions, starts at 5 p.m. on Saturday. Eliminations continue Sunday at 9 a.m. with Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car running eliminations at noon.

The Division’s Top Sportsman and Rig Rentals Top Dragster classes will run in conjunction with the event along with the Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley-Davidson.
Gates at Mission Raceway open at 7 a.m. each day. Qualifying and time trials start Friday at 9 a.m. and continue Saturday at 9 a.m. Comp Eliminator qualify Friday at 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car qualify Friday at 4 p.m. and Saturday at 1 and 4 p.m. Eliminations start Sunday at 9 a.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will run first round at noon.
Tickets for the LORDCO B.C. Nationals at Mission Raceway Park are $15 Friday, $20 Saturday and $20 Sunday. Children 12 and under are admitted free with paid adult.

McPhillips, Bartone Win at the Grove
READING, PA – Rich McPhillips and Tony Bartone took home wins in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny
Car at this weekend’s NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series and the Showdown at Sundown event at Maple Grove Raceway outside Philadelphia.
McPhillips, Phoenixville, Pa., qualified No. 5 and took out Dan LaPrairie in round one with a 5.387 second lap at 269.40 mph then ended No. 1 qualifier Richard Bourke’s day in the semifinals with a 5.371, 262.26 run. In the final it was McPhillips and former Lucas Oil World Champion Duane Shield out of Boulder City, Nev. with McPhillips taking the win in 5.410 seconds, 268.49 mph as Shields had problems and lifted off the throttle. This is the second win in three final rounds for McPhillips having won in Gainesville, Fla., earlier this year and losing to Shields in the Richmond, Va., final in early May.
Bartone met up with second generation driver and defending event champion Matt Gill in his final round making his quickest run of the day to defeat the Broxton, Mass., racer in 5.545 at 266.88 mph as Gill clocked in at 5.627, 252.80. Bartone, Long Island City, N.Y., ran quicker in each round posting a 5.614 in round one against John Headley and a 5.606 over DJ Cox Jr. in round two.
NATIONAL CHAMPION VICTORIOUS IN NORWALK
NORWALK, OH – National Champion Jonnie Lindberg raced to victory in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA
Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series North Central division Cavalcade of Stars presented by Budweiser event at Summit Motorsports Park. The Swedish racer was behind at the tree but took the win at the stripe in 5.580 seconds at 267.37 mph, earning the trophy over local racer Tony Bogolo of Hamilton, Ohio. This is Lindberg’s second win of the season, his first being at the Circle K NHRA Wineternationals in February.
Brandon Booher, Urbana, Ill., was awarded the win in Top Alcohol Dragster over Brandon Greco, Roscoe, Pa. Both racers were even at the start, as Booher gained the lead and held off Greco’s late run to capture the win with a 5.413 second lap at 268.76 mph to Greco’s 5.442, 264.49.
In Comp Eliminator it was Rick Brown, Lebanon, Ohio, in his ’00 Chevrolet S10 that went 8.334 seconds at 137.58 mph for the win over Troy Galibraith, Indianapolis. Galibraith had the holeshot at the start but had problems and backed off the throttle early in his ’14 dragster.
HOME STATE RACERS DOMINATE AT AUTO CLUB DRAGWAY
FONTANA, CA – California racers dominated the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Auto Club Speedway at
Auto Club Dragway as the home state took wins in seven of the nine classes this weekend. Doug Lambeck, Irvine, led the charge along with Jimmy DeFrank, Thousand Oaks, and Robert Naber of Ontario. This was the second win of the year for all three drivers and they all won the season opening Circle K NHRA Winternationals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona back in February.
Lambeck raced to the win in Comp Eliminator over veteran racer Ed Sigmon with an 8.388 second pass at 152.69 mph in his ’08 Sunfire to Sigmon’s 8.431, 154.16 in his ’34 roadster. The win was Lambeck’s 18th win split between Comp and Super Stock.
SEVERANCE, JONES SCORE BIG IN THE HEARTLAND
TOPEKA, KS – Reigning NHRA Lucas Oil Top Alcohol Dragster World Champion and defending event champion
Joey Severance gave a repeat performance picking up the win at the NHRA Kansas Nationals at Heartland Park Topeka. Jeff Jones grabbed his first NHRA national event win in just his second national event appearance in the Top Alcohol Funny Car class and Justin Jenkins joined Severance in defending his event title from a year ago.
Severance out of Woodburn, Ore., took out Megan Meyer who advanced to her third final round in just four events. Meyer, Spring Hill, Kan., was out first but Severance ran her down with a 5.327 second pass at 270.27 mph for his 12th career national event win. The second generation driver Meyer, clocked in at 5.445, 263.20.
