FIRST TIME WINNERS TAKE HOME TROPHIES AT BANDIMERE
MORRISON, CO – Three first time winners made trips to the winner’s circle this weekend along with a few repeat
winners at Bandimere Speedway for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series and the Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals.
In Top Sportsman presented by RacingRVs.com it was John Baker taking home his first NHRA Wally trophy driving his Cobalt to victory with a 7.205, 194.02 pass on his 7.18 dial over Nick Johanns. Johanns broke out by just .013 seconds in his Camaro running 8.297, 165.27
Joining Baker as first time winners in their first final round appearance were Kris Whitfield and John Bianco in Super Comp and Super Street respectively. Whitefield won on a close double break out with Gary Wamboldt 9.472 to a 9.459 and Bianco took out Jason Schade with his Chevy in another double break out, 11.442 to an 11.425.
HEARTLAND PARK HOSTS WEST CENTRAL DIVISION DOUBLE-HEADER WEEKEND
TOPEKA, KS – The NHRA West Central division’s Double-Header Weekend presented by Aeromotive takes place at
Heartland Park Topeka on July 28-31. The double-header is two of six events in the NHRA West Central division and of the 45 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series events scheduled across the country where drivers earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships, as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s Jerry Haas Race Cars Top Sportsman, Fineline Graphics & Madcap Racing Top Dragster and NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson are also in competition.
Gates at Heartland Park open at 7 a.m. every day. The first race on the double-header starts with qualifying and time trials Thursday at 8 a.m. Top Sportsman, Top Dragster and Comp Eliminator qualify at 10:15 a.m. and 3 p.m. Eliminations begin on Friday at 8:30 a.m.

Categories include Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s Pacific Division Top Sportsman Series, Top Dragster Series and the NHRA Harley-Davidson Drag Racing Series will also run in conjunction with the event.
Qualifying and time trials start Friday morning at 8:30 a.m. and continue Saturday at 8:30 a.m. Top Dragster, Comp Eliminator and Top Sportsman qualify on Friday at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. and Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Top Fuel and Pro Fuel Harley-Davidson classes qualify at 3 p.m. on Friday and noon and 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. SEVERANCE WINS AGAIN, RUCKMAN BAGS SECOND
WOODBURN, OR – Joey Severance picked up his sixth win of the year and Terry Ruckman bagged his second at this
weekend’s NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Les Schwab Tires Challenge at Woodburn Dragstrip.
Severance, Woodburn, Ore., was coming off a big win at the K&N Filters NHRA Route 66 Nationals outside Chicago and continued his dominance qualifying number one in Top Alcohol Dragster with an event best 5.226 second pass. He then worked his way through the field taking out fellow Oregon racer Garrett Bateman (Albany, Ore.) with a 5.270, 274.47 mph in the final to take home the win and the trophy. Bateman qualified in the No. 2 position and was right on Severance’s heels with a 5.340, 274.64. Severance ran low elapsed time in each round including his round one win over brother-in-law Jay Livingston, Wilsonville, Ore.

Categories include Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s Top Sportsman Series, Big Rig Rentals Top Dragster Series and the Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson will also run in conjunction with the event.

Qualifying and time trials start Friday at 9 a.m. and continue Saturday at 9 a.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will run test sessions on Friday at noon and 4 p.m. Qualifying for Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car is Saturday, at noon, 2 and 4 p.m. Eliminations start Sunday at 9 a.m.
JEGS ALLSTARS SET TO BATTLE AT ROUTE 66 RACEWAY
JOLIET, IL – For 32 years, the JEGS Allstars has brought together the top racers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag
Racing Series to face off in a battle of the “Best of the Best”. The 2016 JEGS Allstars event will take place on Saturday, July 9, at Route 66 Raceway during the Route 66 NHRA Nationals. The $124,000 race within a race will pit the top point’s earners from NHRA’s seven geographic divisions and four Top Alcohol regions against each other in the culmination of a yearlong point’s battle.
Competitors in Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Top Sportsman, Top Dragster, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street, Top Dragster and Top Sportsman will compete for team and individual honors and a share of the $124,000 purse. Event Sponsor, Jegs High Performance, has also offered a “double-up” bonus to racers. Any Allstars representative who wins the Allstars event and goes on to win the national event will have their Allstar prize money doubled.
MCPHILLIPS, BURKART CELEBRATE IN LEBANON
WEST LEBANON, NY – Rich McPhillips raced to his fourth win of the year in Top Alcohol Dragster and second in as
many weeks and Phil Burkart grabbed his first since taking over the driving duties of the Follow A Dream Top Alcohol Funny Car owned by Jay Blake this weekend at Lebanon Valley Dragway and their annual 4th of July NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series weekend event.
McPhillips, Phoenixville, Pa., qualified No. 1 and met up with No. 2 qualifier Duane Shields out of Boulder City, Nev., in the final for the third time this year. McPhillips got the best of Shields with a 5.372 second, 271 mph pass to Shield’s close 5.440, 270.45. The pair split their earlier meetings with McPhillips winning at Maple Grove Raceway and Shields at Virginia Motorsports Park.
McPhillips was coming off a win last week at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA nationals where he beat out Jackie Fricke in the final. He and took out Fricke in the semifinals this weekend to earn the match up with Shields. McPhillips won in Gainesville, Fla., back in March for his first win of the season.
