MILLER AND HUNTZBERRY TAKE A HOME WINS AT CECIL COUNTY
RISING SUN, MD – The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Northeast Shootout hit the quarter-mile drag strip at
Cecil County Dragway this past weekend. Drivers from all over the northeast visited the strip to battle head-to-head. Winners were crowned in the Lucas Oil Series classes as well as the MXI/Magnaflux Top Dragster and Top Sportsman Series presented by Select Performance, and the Ultimax Pro Stock Snowmobile.
Thomas Miller, Nottingham, Pa., got to a great start at the line, hitting 7.585 seconds at 170.43 mph to defeat Joseph Carnasciale, Cranston, R.I., 8.939 seconds at 149.61 mph in the Comp Eliminator final round. Brad Huntzberry, Smithsburg, Md., brought gold back to Maryland. Huntzberry ran 10.047 seconds at 129.00 mph outlasting Marty Rinehart, Thomasville, Pa., 9.674 seconds at 134.93 mph in the Super Stock final round.
Other drivers visiting the winner’s circle were; Todd Hoven, Milltown, N.J., in Stock Eliminator; Kevin Robb, Denver, Pa., in Super Comp; Edward Alessi, Bethpage, N.Y. in Super Gas; James Stack, Gilbertsville, Pa., in Super Street; and Frank Berard Jr, Troy, N.Y., in Pro Stock Snowmobile.
WINNERS WERE CROWNED AT PACIFIC RACEWAYS
KENT, WA – Elimination rounds ensued from the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event presented by Les
Schwab Tires at Pacific Raceways. Hundreds of racers squared off in head to head competition. Winners were recognized in Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock and the rest of the classes that make up the nationwide series.
Garret Bateman, Albany, Ore., and Megan McKernan, Sierra Madre, Calif., faced off in the final round of Top Alcohol Dragster. Bateman ran 5.336 seconds, 267.64 mph to handedly defeat McKernan 5.923 seconds, 194.72 mph. In the Top Alcohol Funny Car finale, Chris Marshall, McMinnville, Ore., ran 5.774 seconds, 252.52 mph to defeat Brian Hough, Junction City, Ore., 5.761 seconds, 257.33 mph.
Sunday’s event produced multiple home state winners at Pacific Raceways. Jeff Lane, North Bend, Wash., hit 8.085, 155.20 mph defeating Ryan Warter, Olalla, Wash., 8.801 153.70 in the Comp final round. In the Stock Eliminator final, it was Greg Kielman, Vancouver, Wash., who went 11.585, 109.50 defeating Larry Peterson, Eugene, who had a runner up pass of 10.540, 122.67.
SEVERANCE AND LINDBERG WIN NATIONAL EVENT AT BRAINERD
BRAINERD, MN – At the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals, Joey Severance captured his 14th National event win in Top
Alcohol Dragster. While Jonnie Lindberg rode a string of 5.40s to the national event title in Top Alcohol Funny Car.
In the Top Alcohol Dragster final, veteran racers Duane Shields of Boulder City, Nevada, and Joey Severance of Woodburn, Oregon faced off. Severance had the lead at the start and finished with a 5.275 second pass at 273.22 mph. Shields had trouble as he hit the throttle and coasted down the track with an 11.502 second run at 77.68 mph. Severance has earned his fourth National event Wally this year.
In Top Alcohol Funny Car, Lindberg captured his fourth national event win overall with a pass of 5.443 seconds at 270.54 mph in his ’10 Monte Carlo. Lindberg faced off against Annie Whiteley, Grand Junction, Colorado who had a 5.457second, 269.83 mph lap for her runner up finish.
NORTH CENTRAL DIVISION CONCLUDES THE SEASON AT BEECH BEND RACEWAY PARK
BOWLING GREEN, KY – Beech Bend Raceway Park host the final race in the Lucas Oil North Central division on
August 26-28. The event is one of 45 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s Brodix/Steve Schmidt Top Sportsman Series and Spitzer Race Cars Top Dragster Series will also run in conjunction with the event.
Saturday’s action will be highlighted by the Moser Sportsman Shootout that will pit racers from seven entirely different classes against each other in head to head competition with $15,000 up from grabs. The top points earners in seven classes, along with two wild card entries will make up the 16-car field. Round one is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday.
LUCAS WINNERS CROWNED FOR PROTECT THE HARVEST NORTHWEST NATIONALS
KENT, WA – It took a little longer than expected but winners were crowned at Pacific Raceways for the Protect the
Harvest NHRA Northwest Nationals and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series as the father-son duo of Jeff and Cody Lane out of North Bend, Ore., led the charge with wins in Comp and Super Stock.
Jeff faced off with Ralph Van Paepeghem, Garden Valley, Idaho, posting an 8.055 second run at 163 mph to Van Paepeghem’s quicker but losing 7.275, 182.48 after the pair left the line together. Jeff’s son Cody went 10.555 seconds at 124.33 for his victory lap when Darrell Stobbe, Abbotsford, B.C., left early with a red light foul start for his second win of the year having won the national event in Las Vegas back in April. The win was Jeff’s second as well having won the Northwest division season opener at Firebird Raceway in Boise, Idaho.
RACING COMPLETED AT SPOKANE COUNTY RACEWAY
KENT, WA – Elimination rounds from the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event presented by Napa Auto Parts
that was postponed earlier this year at Spokane County Raceway were completed at Pacific Raceways on Thursday, prior to the start of the Pacific Raceways event set for this weekend. All classes were given a single time run, followed by all rounds of eliminations and the winner’s circle celebration.
The elimination rounds delivered three home state champions. Washington bragging rights were on the in line in the Stock Eliminator final round. Jody Lang, Puyallup, Wash., ran 12.939 seconds, 79.32 mph picking up an easy victory as Brad Burton, Snohomish, Wash., fouled at the starting line. Dave Kelly, Walla Walla, Wash., ran 9.913 seconds, 160.75 mph to outlast Gary Culp, Hermiston, Ore., 9.899 seconds, 138.77 mph in Super Gas. And in the Super Street final round, Josh Dalrymple, Sunnyside, Wash., ran dead on the 10.900 second index at 155.15 mph for the victory as Steve Lowe, Langley, B.C., fouled out.
PACIFIC RACEWAYS WILL HOST THE LUCAS OIL REGIONAL PRESENTED BY LES SCHWAB TIRES

18-21. The event is one of 45 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s JBS Top Sportsman Series, Rig Rentals Top Dragster Series and the Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson will also run in conjunction with the event.
The event will kick off on Thursday with elimination rounds for the postponed Lucas Oil event from Spokane County Raceway originally scheduled earlier this year. All classes will get one time trial followed by all rounds of eliminations and the winner’s circle ceremony.

Gates at Cecil County Dragway open at 8 a.m. each day. Qualifying and time trials are Friday at 9 a.m. and Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Comp Eliminator qualify Friday at 2 and 6 p.m. and Saturday at 10:30 with eliminations at noon. The Top Dragster and Top Sportsman qualify at 4 p.m. on Friday and noon and 4 p.m. on Saturday followed by round one at 6 p.m. Harley-Davidson qualify on Friday at 2:30 and 6:30 p.m. and run all three rounds of eliminations on Saturday at 3, 5, and 7 p.m. Eliminations continue Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Round two of Top Dragster and Top Sportsman will start at 11 a.m.
GREENHECK, SPEER LEAD WINNERS IN BRAINERD
BRAINERD, MN – In the final results from Brainerd International Raceway and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing
Series Thunder at the Lakes, Jim Greenheck took the win in Comp Eliminator along with a slew of home state racers led by local runner Brett Speer in Super Stock.
Greenheck, Schofield, Wis., faced off with former national champion Bruno Massel as the pair left the line together. Greenheck motored down the quarter mile clocking in at 7.318 seconds, 184.80 mph for the win in his ’12 Camaro as Massel was off the pace with problems.
Speer, Little Falls, Minn., won a close one with Byron Worner, Duncannon, Pa., with Speer winning by about 11 inches in 10.152 seconds, 125.56 mph to Worner’s quicker 9.940, 129.80.
BRAINERD INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY RUMBLES WITH THE THUNDER AT THE LAKES

Division for Thunder at the Lakes on August 13-14. The event is one of 45 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000.
Categories include Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s Jerry Haas Race Cars Top Sportsman, Fineline Graphics & Madcap Racing Top Dragster and NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson are also in competition.
