LEBANON VALLEY DRAGWAY HOST NHRA SUMMIT RACING SERIES NORTHEAST FINALS
WEST LEBANON VALLEY, NY – NHRA’s top drag racers from tracks across the Northeast division will be at
Lebanon Valley Dragway to square off in head-to-head competition at the NHRA Summit Racing Series Northeast Division Finals, September 15-17. Top points earning drivers in five classes will be on hand to compete for team and individual honors. Racers in Super Pro, Pro, Street, Bike/Sled and High School will run in the event.
Friday’s action will also feature the Race of Champions where top points earners from each track will face off in a best of the best battle in Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman and Bike/Sled. Event eliminations kick off on Saturday with more than 500 racers competing for top honors and a chance to compete for the Summit Racing Series National Championship at the Auto Club NHRA Finals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona in November. They’ll run against the winners from NHRA’s other six divisions for a purse of more than $100,000.
NHRA NORTHWEST DIVISION SEASON ENDS AT WOODBURN DRAGSTRIP
WOODBURN, OR – The NHRA Northwest Division returns to Woodburn Dragstrip on September 16-18. The event
is one of 45 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional, regional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s JBS Top Sportsman Series, Rig Rentals Top Dragster Series and the Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson will also run in conjunction with the event.
Gates at Woodburn Dragstrip opens at 8 a.m. each day. Qualifying and time trials are Friday and Saturday at 9 a.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car have test sessions Friday at noon and 4 p.m. Qualifying for Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car start Saturday at noon, 2 and 4 p.m. Eliminations start Sunday at 9 a.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car run round 1 at noon.

Categories include Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s Sunset Performance Top Sportsman Series, KPE Top Dragster Series and NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley-Davidson will also be run in conjunction with the event.
Gates at Thunder Road Raceway Park open at 8 a.m. each day. Qualifying and time trials are Friday and Saturday at 10 a.m. Top Dragster, Top Sportsman and Comp Eliminator qualify at 1:30 and 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Eliminations continue Sunday at 9 a.m. with round one for Top Dragster, Top Sportsman and Comp Eliminator at 10:30 a.m.
GINGLES AND GORDON WINNERS IN EARLVILLE
EARLVILLE, IA – The NHRA West Central division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series hit the quarter-mile at Tri-State
Raceway this past weekend. Winners were recognized for the West Central final event in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car, as well as Top Dragster, Top Sportsman, Comp Eliminator, Stock, Super Comp and the rest of the classes that encompass the nationwide series.
After battling through two tough rounds in Top Alcohol Dragster, Gord Gingles, Winnipeg, Manit., made the winning run of 5.345 seconds, 272.17 mph in the final round.. Duane Shields, Boulder City, Nev., had a runner up pass of 5.749 seconds, 247.43 mph. Doug Gordon, Paso Robles, Calif., raced to victory in the Top Alcohol Funny Car final round; hitting 5.706 seconds, 259.36 mph . Bill Bernard, Littleton, Colo., had a runner up pass of 5.638 seconds, 260.21mph.
DOLL WINS FIFTH OF THE SEASON AT OLD BRIDGE
ENGLISHTOWN, NJ – In the final results from the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Northeast Division event at
Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, Doug Doll, Jr. captured his fifth divisional win this season and increased his lead in the points race for the national championship in Comp Eliminator.
Doll Jr., Lancaster, Pa., faced off against Jay Schonberger, Philadelphia, Pa., and posted a winning run of 7.379 seconds, 159.83 mph. Schonberger drove to an 8.275 second, 144.46 mph lap for his runner up finish. From start to finish, Doll had a better run over Schonberger. Doll started this season with four straight wins, and has yet to lose when making a final round appearance this season.
It was a fifth win of his career, in six final round appearances for Justin Picillo of Warwick, R. I., all in Stock Eliminator. Picillo worked his way through the field and ran 10.593 seconds at 123.06 mph in his final round victory over veteran racer Peter Biondo, Maspeth, N.Y., who clocked in at 10.362 seconds, 120.60 mph. Picillo gave Biondo no room at the stripe to take home the win, running a 0.017 package better than Biondo’s 0.024 light.

Meet for conclusion of the Northeast Division season on September 9-11. The event is one of 45 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The division’s MXI/Magnaflux Top Dragster and Top Sportsman Series’ presented by Select Performance will run in conjunction with the event along with the Ultimax Pro Stock Snowmobile.
Gates at Raceway Park open at 8 a.m. each day. Qualifying and time trials are Friday and Saturday at 10 a.m. Comp Eliminator will qualify Friday at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. with elimination rounds at 4 and 5 p.m. Top Dragster and Top Sportsman will have qualify Friday at 4 p.m. and Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. with eliminations at 4:15 and 7 p.m. Eliminations continue at 10 a.m. on Sunday with Top Dragster and Top Sportsman at 10:30 a.m.
PAGE AND LINDBERG WIN BIG AT INDY NATIONALS
BROWNSBURG, IN – Multiple winners were crowned in the action packed Chevrolet Performance US Nationals at
Lucas Oil Raceway in Brownsburg, Ind. Champions were recognized in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car, as well as Comp Eliminator, Stock, Super Comp and the rest of the classes that encompass the nationwide series.
Fans in attendance were forced to the edge of their seats when the Top Alcohol Dragsters hit the starting line in the final round. Dan Page, Hampstead, N.H., and Shawn Cowie, Surrey, B.C., raced down to the wire. Page posted a victory run of 5.352 seconds, 270.32 mph edging out Cowie by a small margin, who made a runner up pass of 5.369 seconds, 270.27 mph.
However in the Top Alcohol Funny Car finale there was little discrepancy as to who the victor was. Jonnie Lindberg, Upplands Vasby, SWE ran to a resounding victory of 5.673, 263.00 defeating Annie Whiteley, Grand Junction, Colo., who suffered problems and could only watch Lindberg disappear down track.
HART AND BOHL WINNERS IN BOWLING GREEN
BOWLING GREEN, KY – The NHRA North Central division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series finished up yesterday at
Beech Bend Raceway Park with a winner’s circle celebration recognizing champions in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car, as well as Top Dragster, Top Sportsman, Comp Eliminator, Stock, Super Comp and the rest of the classes that encompass the nationwide series.
In the Top Alcohol Dragster final round, Josh Hart, Ocala, Fla. made the winning run of 5.319 seconds, 272.83 mph.. Robin Samsel, Marion, Ind., had a runner pass of 5.376 seconds, 263.10 mph. Andy Bohl, Racine, Wis., made a winning pass of 5.596 seconds, 263.87 mph taking home the victory in the Top Alcohol Funny Car final round. Dan Pomponio, Berlin, N.J., hit a runner up pass of 5.745 seconds, 252.61mph.
ELROD CROWNED MOSER CHAMPION; BROWN WINS COMP SHOOTOUT
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Reigning Super Gas National Champion Jacob Elrod collected $5,000 in winning the
Moser Sportsman Shootout at Beech Bend Raceway Park and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series. The Harrod, Ohio, racer was near perfect on the tree (.004 second reaction time), then clocked in at 6.924 seconds at 132.22 mph in his ’92 Corvette to hold off Mark McDonald, Boonville, Ind., with a 4.353, 164.21 in his ’67 Mustang.
Elrod was one of two wild card entries that were drawn to fill out the 16-car field that puts racers in seven different classes in head to head competition over a 1/8th mile track. Top Sportsman entry, McDonald pocketed $2000 for his runner up finish.
In the Spitzer Race Cars / Indy Gear Comp Shootout it was Rick Brown, Lebanon, Ohio, capturing his first Comp Shootout win as he downed Greg Kamplain, Brownsburg, Ind., with a pass of 8.255, 162.12.
