JUSTIN ASHLEY RACES TO SEMIFINALS IN DENVER

DENVER, CO – Justin Ashley and the Phillips Connect Toyota Top Fuel dragster powered by Vita C Energy raced to the semifinals today at his first NHRA Mile High Nationals. The second-generation professional driver qualified No. 2 and outran Cameron Ferre and Austin Prock before dropping a close race to eventual race winner Leah Pruett in the semifinals. Throughout qualifying the team battled to get a handle on a strong tune up heading into the final qualifying session from the bottom half of the field. Crew chiefs Mike Green and Tommy DeLago kept working and the final qualifying pass catapulted Ashley into the No. 2 spot and set him up for a strong race day.

In the first round against Ferre, Ashley was first off the starting line with an impressive .051 reaction time and never trailed in the race. As Ferre’s Top Fuel dragster was launching his parachute blossomed and he was robbed of any chance to chase down the Phillips Connect Toyota dragster.

“The first round is always the toughest and you can’t take an opponent like Cameron lightly,” said Ashley, who has two wins this season. “We struggled a little in qualifying but our last run in qualifying jumped us up to No. 2 and really gave us a strong shot today.”

Justin Ashley Focused on Tackling Western Swing with First Stop in Denver

PLAINVIEW, NY – Already in the thick of the NHRA Top Fuel championship battle, Justin Ashley and the Phillips Connect Toyota Top Fuel dragster powered by Vita C Energy will tackle a new challenge on the side of the mountain at Bandimere Speedway this weekend. For the first time the third-year pro will compete in the NHRA Mile-High Nationals outside of Denver, Colorado. The NHRA Western Swing will begin this weekend at the picturesque Bandimere Speedway before moving to Sonoma, California and Seattle, Washington over the following two weekends. The three in a row series will test teams and drivers in a variety of racing environments as the 2022 NHRA Camping World regular season ends.

“Members of our team have raced in Denver before, but this will be my first time racing on the mountain at Bandimere Speedway,” said Ashley, the 2020 NHRA Rookie of the Year. “Ironically, in 2006, I won the NHRA FanNationals in NHRA’s Funny Car simulators while watching my dad race in Denver. Now I’ll be racing in Top Fuel sixteen years later. Crew chiefs Mike Green and Tommy DeLago always give me a great racecar and I look forward to taking on the challenge of racing at a high altitude.”

Early Exit at Norwalk Nationals for Justin Ashley

NORWALK, OH – After back-to-back final round appearances including a win last weekend on Father’s Day at the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals championship contending driver Justin Ashley and the Phillips Connect Toyota Top Fuel dragster powered by Vita C Energy were upset in the open round at Summit Motorsports Park. The No. 2 qualifier was strong through two days of qualifying and rolled into race day with momentum and confidence. Facing Leah Pruett and her Tony Stewart Racing backed dragster Ashley was looking for his fifth win light in a row and third win of the season.

Cooler conditions blanketed the track as the Summit Equipment Nationals unfolded in front of a packed house. The 2020 NHRA Rookie of the Year and four-time finalist this season grabbed a starting line advantage and was on the way to adding another round win to his 5-3 head-to-head record against Pruett when his dragster surprisingly slowed as it crossed half-track. When Ashley crossed the finish line with an elapsed time of 3.852 seconds the drop off in performance was attributed to tire shake and Ashley giving his 11,000 horsepower Phillips Connect dragster a quick pedal.

“It was a little bit of a weird run,” said Ashley. “It put a hole out (dropped a cylinder) at the hit and it got out there and started shaking. It was in between the need to pedal and not pedal. I slapped it quickly and then got right back on the throttle. We didn’t accomplish our objective today, but we continued to learn and get better. Our hats off to Leah’s team, they did a better job.”

Ashley Looking to Continue Winning Streak at Norwalk Nationals

PLAINVIEW, NY – As the temperatures begin rising across the country the hottest Top Fuel driver on the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series, Justin Ashley, is headed to the NHRA Norwalk Nationals. Last week Ashley raced the Phillips Connect Toyota Top Fuel dragster powered by Vita C Energy to his second win of the season and second consecutive final round. The win moved Ashley up to third place in the Top Fuel point standings and solidified the third-year driver as a serious championship contender.

“Our goal at the beginning of the season was to win races and put ourselves in a position to win a championship by securing a spot in the Countdown. We have a lot of work to do but our four finals appearances and Winternationals and Bristol wins have resembled the start we envisioned,” said Ashley, a four-time Top Fuel national event winner. “We are going to keep working hard and focusing on being successful every weekend. The competition out here is incredibly tough.”

On the way to an emotional Father’s Day weekend victory Ashley had to outrun Josh Hart, Doug Foley, 4-time champion Steve Torrence and 2013 Top Fuel champion Shawn Langdon. It was a gauntlet that was comprised of some of the toughest drivers off the starting line, dominant teams, and veteran experience. The 2020 NHRA Rookie of the Year was up to the task behind the wheel of his Mike Green and Tommy DeLago tuned Phillips Connect Vita C Energy Top Fuel dragster.

Justin Ashley Taking Momentum to Thunder Valley

PLAINVIEW, NY – Eight races into the NHRA regular season Justin Ashley and the Phillips Connect Toyota Top Fuel dragster team powered by Vita C Energy  have raced to three finals with one victory in the bank. Two weeks ago at the New England Nationals Ashley just missed picking up his second win of the season and heading into the Thunder Valley Nationals the 2020 NHRA Rookie of the Year is poised to get on a hot streak rolling into the heart of the summer.

“We made a good run in the final round at Epping and we just got beat by a quicker run,” said Ashley, “It was a classic drag race. We took our shot and Mike Salinas took his, and he ended up coming out on top. Overall, it was a very successful weekend, and we are ready to get back at it in Bristol.”

For Ashley and the Phillips Connect Toyota Top Fuel team this season is a continuation of their sophomore campaign which saw the young team owner and driver contend for the championship until the very end of the season. The 2021 season also showed his racing operation could contend with the multi-car teams. An off-season technical alliance with Antron Brown Motorsports has added to his Davis Motorsports operation and provided crew chiefs Mike Green and Tommy DeLago with additional sounding boards. Overall, Ashley team has made significant strides at every race since the season opening win at the Winternationals.

JUSTIN ASHLEY RUNNER-UP AT NEW ENGLAND NATIONALS

EPPING, NH – Justin Ashley and the Phillips Connect Toyota Top Fuel dragster powered by Vita C Energy raced to their third final round of the season and seventh overall. Ashley entered race day as the No. 8 qualifier after a tough two days of qualifying.  The Top Fuel championship contending team was sitting No. 16 heading into the final qualifying session on Saturday night and a strong final run moved them into the top half of the field as the No. 8 qualifier. It was the Phillips Connect team’s toughest outing this season in qualifying. They dug deep and made their best run in Q3 when Ashley blasted down the track in 3.768 seconds at over 326 mph. It was Ashley’s only full pull over two days of qualifying. Crew chief Mike Green was glad to put up a decent number but knew the team had squandered some quality track time in the process.

“I have had it all screwed up since we got here,” said Mike Green. “There is a lot better track out there than we showed on that run. We just needed to get it down there to get in the show. We will look at it and hopefully we can do something better on race day. We will keep working on it and I am glad we got in on down through there. I am looking forward to racing tomorrow.”
